Iblis according to the Quran

In Islamic theology, Iblis is an entity who is commonly associated with Satan or the devil. According to the Quran, he was a jinn who was cast out of paradise for his disobedience to Allah.

In Islamic tradition, Iblis is regarded as the ultimate symbol of evil and is believed to be constantly seeking to lead human beings astray from the path of righteousness. He is seen as a tempter who lures people into sin and leads them away from the worship of Allah.

The story of Iblis is an important part of Islamic belief and serves as a reminder of the need for believers to be vigilant in their faith and to resist the temptations of evil.

Iblis is a character mentioned in the Quran who is commonly associated with Satan or the devil. He is said to have been a jinn, a supernatural creature made of smokeless fire, who refused to bow down to Adam when Allah commanded all the angels to do so. As a result of his disobedience, he was cast out of paradise and became an enemy of Allah and mankind.

In Islamic tradition, Iblis is considered to be the ultimate symbol of evil and is believed to constantly try to lead humans astray from the path of righteousness. The Quran warns believers to be aware of his deception and to seek refuge in Allah from his influence.

Here are some Quranic verses that mention Iblis:

"And [mention] when We said to the angels, 'Prostrate to Adam,' and they prostrated, except for Iblees [Satan]. He said, 'Should I prostrate to one You created from mud?' " [Quran 17:61]

"So when We decreed for him [i.e., Adam] death, no one informed Iblees [Satan] about his death. But there came to him a notification from his Lord: 'Indeed, that which you are promised is true.' " [Quran 34:20]

"Except Iblees [Satan], he was arrogant and became among the disbelievers." [Quran 38:74]

"And [mention] when We said to the angels, 'Prostrate to Adam,' and they prostrated, except for Iblees [Satan]. He refused and was arrogant and became among the disbelievers." [Quran 2:34]

"And [mention] when We said to the angels, 'Prostrate to Adam,' and they prostrated, except for Iblees [Satan]. He was of the jinn and departed from the command of his Lord. Then will you take him and his descendants as allies other than Me while they are enemies to you? Wretched it is for the wrongdoers as an exchange." [Quran 18:50]

These verses highlight the story of Iblis and his disobedience to Allah's command to prostrate to Adam. They also emphasize his arrogance and his status as an enemy of believers.

"Satan said, 'Because You have put me in error, I will surely sit in wait for them on Your straight path. Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them and on their right and on their left, and You will not find most of them grateful [to You].'" [Quran 7:16-17]

"O children of Adam, let not Satan tempt you as he removed your parents from Paradise, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private parts. Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them. Indeed, We have made the devils allies to those who do not believe." [Quran 7:27]

"And the plot of Satan is not but weakness." [Quran 4:76]

These verses show Iblis as a tempter who seeks to mislead human beings from the path of Allah. They also portray him as weak in his schemes and plots, and as an ally of those who do not believe in Allah.

"And [mention] when We said to the angels, 'Prostrate before Adam'; so they prostrated, except for Iblis. He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers." [Quran 2:34]

"Satan promises them and arouses desire in them. But Satan does not promise them except delusion." [Quran 4:120]

"Indeed, Satan is an enemy to you; so take him as an enemy. He only invites his party to be among the companions of the Blaze." [Quran 35:6]

These verses highlight Iblis' disobedience to Allah's command to prostrate before Adam, his arrogance and disbelief, and his role as an enemy of human beings who seeks to lead them astray. They also emphasize that Satan's promises are deceptive and that he only seeks to lead people towards Hellfire.

"Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, that you not worship Satan - [for] indeed, he is to you a clear enemy - And that you worship [only] Me? This is a straight path." [Quran 36:60-61]

"And [mention] when We said to the angels, 'Prostrate to Adam,' and they prostrated, except for Iblis. He said, 'Should I prostrate to one You created from clay?' Iblis said, 'I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay.'" [Quran 7:11-12]

"And We have certainly created for Hell many of the jinn and mankind. They have hearts with which they do not understand, they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear. Those are like livestock; rather, they are more astray. It is they who are the heedless." [Quran 7:179]

These verses reiterate Iblis' disobedience to Allah and his enmity towards human beings. They also emphasize that Satan's whispers can lead people astray, and that the path to salvation lies in worshiping Allah alone and following the straight path. Additionally, the verses warn about the danger of falling into heedlessness and ignorance, which can lead to Hellfire.

"And when We said to the angels, 'Prostrate to Adam,' and they prostrated, except for Iblis. He was of the jinn and departed from the command of his Lord. Then will you take him and his descendants as allies other than Me while they are enemies to you? Wretched it is for the wrongdoers as an exchange." [Quran 18:50]

"Say, 'I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak from the evil of that which He created and from the evil of darkness when it settles and from the evil of the blowers in knots and from the evil of an envier when he envies.'" [Quran 113:1-5]

These verses further emphasize Iblis' disobedience to Allah and his enmity towards human beings. They also warn against taking Iblis or his descendants as allies, as they are enemies to believers. The verses also caution against the temptation and whispers of Satan, who seeks to lead people astray from the path of righteousness. Finally, the verses encourage seeking refuge in Allah from the evil created by Satan and his followers.

"And [mention] when We said to the angels, 'Prostrate before Adam'; so they prostrated, except for Iblees. He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers." [Quran 2:34]

"And [mention] when We said to the angels, 'Prostrate to Adam,' and they prostrated, except for Iblees. He was of the jinn and departed from the command of his Lord. Then will you take him and his descendants as allies other than Me while they are enemies to you? Wretched it is for the wrongdoers as an exchange." [Quran 18:50]

"Indeed, Satan is an enemy to you; so take him as an enemy. He only invites his party to be among the companions of the Blaze." [Quran 35:6]

"O you who have believed, do not follow the footsteps of Satan. And whoever follows the footsteps of Satan - indeed, he enjoins immorality and wrongdoing. And if not for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy, not one of you would have been pure, ever, but Allah purifies whom He wills, and Allah is Hearing and Knowing." [Quran 24:21]

These verses further describe Iblis as being arrogant, disobedient, and a disbeliever who rejected Allah's command to prostrate to Adam. He is also referred to as an enemy of humanity who seeks to lead people astray and invite them to the Hellfire. The verses urge believers to be cautious and not follow in the footsteps of Satan, who encourages immoral behavior and wrongdoing. Finally, the verses acknowledge Allah's favor and mercy upon believers, as He alone has the power to purify hearts and guide people towards righteousness.

"And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud. And the jinn We created before from scorching fire. And [mention] when your Lord said to the angels, 'I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. So when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration.' So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely, except Iblees; he was arrogant and became among the disbelievers." [Quran 15:26-31]

"He [Iblees] said, 'My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected.' [Allah] said, 'So indeed, you are of those reprieved until the Day of the time well-known.' [Iblees] said, 'By your might, I will surely mislead them all except, among them, Your chosen servants.' [Allah] said, 'The truth [is My oath], and the truth I say - [that] I will surely fill Hell with you and those of them that follow you all together.'" [Quran 38:79-85]

These verses provide more insight into Iblis' refusal to prostrate to Adam and his subsequent expulsion from the grace of Allah. It is revealed that Iblis was created from fire and had been created before humans. In his arrogance, he refused to follow Allah's command and became one of the disbelievers. The verses also show that Iblis was given a chance to repent but instead chose to vow to mislead humanity. Finally, Allah declares that Iblis and those who follow him will be punished in Hellfire.

Iblis is a character mentioned in the Quran as a rebellious jinn who refused to prostrate before Adam and was banished from the presence of Allah. He is considered as the chief of all devils or demons and is portrayed as the archenemy of humanity, constantly tempting people to disobey Allah and leading them astray from the righteous path. The story of Iblis serves as a warning to people about the dangers of pride, arrogance, and disobedience towards Allah.
