We all have questions about God. We have thousands or millions of God's, according to some who prefer to think that more is better. There is only one Allah in Abrahamic religions such as Islam, Christianity, and Judaism.
These days, we frequently ponder how we interpret Allah. Why is Allah hidden or not visible to us if He exists? etc.
We shall make every effort to provide the clearest explanation possible and to approach our learning from the viewpoint of the students. Let's think about the Earth, which is one planet, one moon, and one sun in our Milky Way Galaxy, which is also one of the universe's only galaxies. The largest thing in the universe is Allah, who is one. Imagine the cosmos as a spherical with Allah at its outer border, and the universe itself inside, always growing. It is said to be expanding more quickly than light. This implies that if we move at the speed of light, we will never be able to locate the universe's boundary.
This is how the universe is created. To put it briefly, there was only one Allah at first. Then, Allah separated a portion of His body and called it Muhammad (peace be upon him). He divided that into 4 halves. Retained one portion and referred to it as the original Muhammad (pbuh). He preserved the fourth portion for subsequent creations, and the second part became a pen and the third a note book. He then wrote His 1st sentence-
There is none worthy of worship except God (Allah) and Muhammad is the messenger of God.
After that, the fourth section was divided into 4 pieces. Every time Allah creates something, he takes the leftover 1 part from his previous 4 splits and divides it into 4 parts again, using the first three for fresh creations and the fourth for later. Everything was and will be created in this manner till the end of time.
Here is a tale that raises a related concept-
"O Allah, I ask You by the right of Muhammad (pbuh) to forgive me."
According to the narration, Allah asked Adam (as) (the 1st man who he repented), how he knew about Muhammad (pbuh), and Adam (AS) responded that he saw Muhammad’s (pbuh) name written on the Arsh alongside Allah’s Name, which led him to believe that Muhammad (pbuh) held a special status.
Musannaf of Abdur Razzaq (Hadith No. 20738)
Al-Hakim’s Mustadrak (Book of History, Hadith No. 4228)
Here is another story that suggest similar idea- One day the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) asked Jabreel (Gabrial) (A.S) that ‘What is your age?’. The angel Gabrial (A.S) replied that I don’t exactly know what my age is but the only thing I know is that Allah’s Arsh used to be on water and nothing was present at that time apart from that.
There was a star which I used to see. It used to shine there with its Noor (Light). After a period the star used to hide and then rise again after every 70,000 years.
Angel Gabriel's age is - 1,277,500,000,000 x 70,000 = (around) 89,425,000,000,000,000 years
Then Muhammad (pbuh) responded, that star was me (Allah's 1st creation).
Al-Fatihah 1:2 ٱلۡحَمۡدُلِلَّهِرَبِّٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ٢ Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the entire universe.
Ash-Shu'ara 26:184 وَٱتَّقُواْٱلَّذِيخَلَقَكُمۡوَٱلۡجِبِلَّةَٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ١٨٤ "And fear Him Who created you and (who created) the generations before (you)"
An-Nahl 16:20 وَٱلَّذِينَيَدۡعُونَمِندُونِٱللَّهِلَايَخۡلُقُونَشَيۡـٔٗاوَهُمۡيُخۡلَقُونَ٢٠ And those they invoke other than Allāh create nothing, and they [themselves] are created.
"Surah Al-A'raf, Verse 54": Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then established Himself on the Throne [of authority]. He covers the night with day and covers the day with night. And He has made the sun and moon subservient, each running to a prescribed term. Indeed, it is He who is the Almighty, the Forgiving.
According to Hadith's:
Abu Huraira reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) took hold of my hands and said: Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, created the clay on Saturday and He created the mountains on Sunday and He created the trees on Monday and He created the things entailing labour on Tuesday and created light on Wednesday and He caused the animals to spread on Thursday and created Adam (peace be upon him) after 'Asr on Friday; the last creation at the last hour of the hours of Friday, i. e. between afternoon and night. Islam advises us to prioritize Allah. The Almighty judges our intentions, deeds, and expectations. Suggestions like this encourage us to be kind and supportive of others with the expectation such as-
What a police could do
A teacher can influence
A physician can save
A social worker can change
There are numerous Hadiths emphasizing the importance of prioritizing Allah in one's life.
"The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'When Allah loves a servant, He tests him.'" (Tirmidhi) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Be in this world as though you were a stranger or a traveler.'" (Bukhari) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The world, with all its attractions and allurements, is accursed except for the remembrance of Allah and what helps towards it.'" (Muslim) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The best of your days is Friday. So, pray more upon me in it, for your prayers are presented to me.'" (Abu Dawud) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The parable of the believers in their affection, mercy, and compassion for each other is that of a body. When any limb aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever.'" (Muslim) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever does not show mercy to people, Allah will not show mercy to him.'" (Bukhari) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Take benefit of five before five: your youth before your old age, your health before your sickness, your wealth before your poverty, your free time before you are preoccupied, and your life before your death.'" (Al-Hakim) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The most beloved of places to Allah are the mosques, and the most hated of places to Allah are the markets.'" (Muslim) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, while there is good in both. Strive for that which will benefit you, seek help from Allah, and do not despair.'" (Muslim) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Do not curse time, for Allah is time.'" (Muslim) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'He who truly believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good or remain silent.'" (Bukhari and Muslim) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Allah does not look at your forms and possessions, but He looks at your hearts and your deeds.'" (Muslim) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Take benefit of five before five: your youth before your old age, your health before your sickness, your wealth before your poverty, your free time before you are preoccupied, and your life before your death.'" (Tirmidhi) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The believers who show the most perfect faith are those who have the best behavior, and the best of you are those who are the best to their wives.'" (Tirmidhi) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The likeness of the one who remembers his Lord and the one who does not remember Him is like that of a living to a dead person.'" (Bukhari) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'None of you truly believes until I am more beloved to him than his father, his children, and all of mankind.'" (Bukhari and Muslim) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him, and whoever hates to meet Allah, Allah hates to meet him.'" (Bukhari) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'A person's status in the Hereafter will be determined by his deeds, his standing with Allah will be according to his deeds, and none of you should wish for death because of a calamity befalling him; but if he has to wish for death, he should say: O Allah! Keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and let me die if death is better for me.'" (Bukhari) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The example of a believer who recites the Quran is like that of a citron (a citrus fruit) which tastes good and smells good.'" (Bukhari and Muslim) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The best of people is he from whom good accrues to humanity.'" (Tirmidhi) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Be conscious of Allah wherever you are. Follow the bad deed with a good one to erase it, and engage others with beautiful character.'" (Tirmidhi) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever gives up something for the sake of Allah, Allah will replace it with something better.'" (Ahmad) "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The one who strives for the Hereafter, Allah will make everything easy for him. But the one who strives for this world, Allah will place poverty before his eyes and disunite his affairs, and he will get nothing of this world except what has been decreed for him.'" (Ibn Majah)
"The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Richness does not lie in the abundance of worldly goods but richness is the richness of the soul (heart, self).'" (Muslim) Participating in or making donations to mosques and religious pursuits rather than purchasing luxuries.
"The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The most beloved deed to Allah is the most regular and constant even if it were little.'" (Bukhari) Regular worship is the key to success. Your five daily prayers, the Dhikr, and additional acts of worship. Our faith is renewed by prayer. Dhikrs are regarded as our everyday prayers in which we seek Allah's wisdom. Our standing as excellent leaders is enhanced by our leisurely religious pursuits.
"The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever loves for Allah and hates for Allah, gives for Allah and withholds for Allah, has completed his faith.'" (Abu Dawud) When we prioritize Allah, He will reward us by making our efforts more fruitful and worthwhile.
"The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The one who guides to something good has a reward similar to that of its doer.'" (Muslim) A teacher might not be a good executor, but guiding a student to get that done is what gives us the finished product.
"The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, while there is good in both.'" (Muslim) It is established that the person with strong beliefs will get greater results if we put Allah first and ask for his guidance for our everyday tasks rather than acting without thinking about the consequences.
"The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The deeds most loved by Allah are those done regularly, even if they are small.'" (Bukhari and Muslim) More people are benefited by our everyday charitable giving than by our larger annual donation.
"The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'A man follows the religion of his close friend, so each one should consider whom he befriends.'" (Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi) Having wise religious friends who can guide us is preferable to having friends who could lead us astray from the path of happiness.
Allah claims that he created us for a purpose. We are not here to enjoy ourselves, and one day we shall pass away. Our deeds have repercussions both on the Day of Judgment and when we are in the hereafter. Thus, Allah leads each of us in the route that best suits us. Allah found Noah and gave him instructions on how to build an ark to protect the believers in order to save the believers and drive out the unbelievers. Allah assisted Abraham in completing the construction of His home in the city of Mecca, which had to be built in the Earth's golden ratio. He assisted Moses in securing the mistreated people from Pharaoh in order to save them. While a teenage, Allah led King David and used his sling shot to end the conflict. Allah assisted Muhammad (pbuh) in elucidating the concept of monotheism (one God), which rejects the worship of about 364 distinct gods' avatars of Pagan's.
Allah is never without a purpose. The prophets and messengers stated above did not solicit bribes, steal, or commit robberies. They fulfilled all of the aforementioned goals due of their good intentions and best efforts; all they did was realize that prosperity and goodness originate from one God, Allah, and not oppose Him.
The best part is that Allah, the All-Knowing and All-Powerful Being, will not hesitate to assist us with our everyday responsibilities if we put Him first. For instance, we can recite SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah) or Alhumdulillah (praise be to Allah) when we are enjoying a completed task, asking Allah to bless us with that in the future. We can recite Allahuakbar (Allah is greater) to beg Allah to make things easier for us if we are having trouble with a task or if we need assistance from our peers. In the same manner, a student can repeat "rabbi jidni ilma" (O my Lord, increase me in knowledge) or "bismillah" (in the name of Allah) in order to ask Allah for assistance in solving a problem.
Every Muslim has five main responsibilities, or pillars of faith, that they must uphold throughout their lives. Again, it was mentioned Must, and no other exceptions. The cornerstone of Muslim faith and behavior is found in the Five Pillars of Islam. First and foremost, Muhammad's prophetic status and the unity of Allah are attested to in the Shahada, or profession of faith. Five times a day, Muslims undertake the traditional prayer known as salah, which strengthens their ties to Allah and promotes attentiveness and spiritual discipline. Almsgiving to the less fortunate, or zakat, is a reflection of the concepts of social justice and economic solidarity. Sawm, the practice of fasting throughout the month of Ramadan, fosters gratitude, empathy, and self-control. Last but not least, the Hajj, or pilgrimage to Mecca, emphasizes equality and togetherness among Muslims all over the world and is a profoundly spiritual event. These pillars work together to create the basis of an all-encompassing and pious Islamic way of life.
The Five Pillars of Islam- 1. Faith or belief in the Oneness of God (Allah) and the finality of the Prophethood of Muhammad, peace be upon him (pbuh); 2. Establishment of the 5 daily prayers; 3. Caring about and providing money for the poor; 4. Fasting throughout Ramadan as a means of self-purification. 5. Hajj (pilgrimage). The journey to Mecca for those who can afford it.
According to the Quran
The cornerstones of a Muslim's beliefs and way of life are the Five Pillars of Islam, which are essential acts of worship. Although the phrase "Five Pillars" is not specifically referenced in the Quran, the guiding ideas and practices that go along with it are taken from a number of verses. The following are some pertinent verses from the Quran that are frequently linked to the Five Pillars of Islam:
Shahada (Declaration of Faith): Quran 3:18: "Allah witnesses that there is no deity except Him, and [so do] the angels and those of knowledge - [that He is] maintaining [creation] in justice. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise."
Salah (Prayer): Quran 2:238: "Guard strictly your prayers, especially the Middle Prayer; and stand before Allah in a devout (frame of mind)."
Zakat (Charity): Quran 2:267-273: These verses discuss the importance of giving to charity and helping those in need.
Sawm (Fasting during Ramadan): Quran 2:183: "O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous."
Hajj (Pilgrimage to Mecca): Quran 3:97: "In it are clear signs [such as] the standing place of Abraham. And whoever enters it shall be safe. And [due] to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House - for whoever is able to find thereto a way. But whoever disbelieves - then indeed, Allah is free from need of the worlds."
It is noteworthy that although these passages are connected to the Five Pillars, the specific customs and ceremonies are frequently taken from the Hadith, which are the sayings and deeds of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Islamic beliefs and customs are based on the combination of the Quran and Hadith.
According to Hadith
Here are some Hadith's with reference for each of the Five Pillars of Islam:
Shahada (Declaration of Faith): Hadith: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever bears witness that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, and that 'Isa (Jesus) is the servant of Allah, His Messenger, and His Word which He bestowed in Maryam (Mary) and a spirit created from Him; and that Paradise is true and Hell is true - Allah will admit him into Paradise, whatever his deeds." (Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 23, Hadith 355)
Salah (Prayer): Hadith: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "When a servant stands for prayer, all his sins are brought and placed on his head and shoulders. Every time he bows or prostrates, they fall away from him." (Sunan Ibn Majah, Book 5, Hadith 771)
Zakat (Charity): Hadith: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Take from their wealth to give to the poor among them." (Sahih Muslim, Book 5, Hadith 1057)
Sawm (Fasting during Ramadan): Hadith: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever fasts during Ramadan with faith and seeking his reward from Allah will have his past sins forgiven." (Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 31, Hadith 1)
Hajj (Pilgrimage to Mecca): Hadith: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever performs Hajj for the sake of Allah and does not utter any evil or do any evil, will go back as free from sins as the day his mother gave birth to him." (Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 26, Hadith 596)
Please note that there are multiple collections of Hadith, and the references provided here are from Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, which are two of the most widely accepted collections by Sunni Muslims.
In summary, the Five Pillars of Islam are fundamental principles that direct a Muslim's faith and behavior. They are encapsulated in the words of the Quran and the references to Hadith. The Quran's emphasis on divine testimony is highlighted by the Shahada, which affirms Allah's unity. Salah, which is expressed in verses that demand unwavering prayer, denotes devotion to and a spiritual relationship. Verse incorporates the idea of Zakat, highlighting economic justice and compassion, while Hadith emphasizes the obligation to help the less fortunate. The Quran affirms and promotes sawm, and certain Hadiths bolster its function in atoning for transgressions. The Quran's obligatory Hajj stands for Muslim equality and solidarity, while Hadith highlights the pilgrimage's transformational power. These lines from the Quran and the allusions to Hadith together capture the all-encompassing and interwoven nature of the Five Pillars, offering a model for an upright and pious Muslim life. In other words, naming our children Muhammad doesn't make them Muslims or believers in Islam. As was already established, the secret to being a good Muslim is their everyday practices.
"Aqeedah" (also spelled "aqida" or "aqidah") is an Arabic word that is commonly translated as "creed" or "belief system". In Islamic theology, aqeedah refers to the set of fundamental beliefs that are considered essential to the Muslim faith. These beliefs include the oneness of God (tawheed), the belief in the prophets and messengers of God (nubuwwah), the belief in the holy books revealed by God (kutub), belief in the Day of Judgment (yawm al-qiyamah), and belief in the divine decree and destiny (qadar). These beliefs serve as the foundation of Islamic faith and practice, and are considered essential for Muslims to understand and adhere to.
Aqeedah encompasses the fundamental beliefs and principles of Islam that are essential for a Muslim's faith and practice. Aqeedah is derived from the Arabic word "aqada," which means "to affirm" or "to hold as true."
In Islam, aqeedah includes the belief in one God (Allah) and the acceptance of His oneness (Tawheed), the belief in the prophets and messengers of God (including Adam, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad), the belief in the angels, the belief in the divine books (including the Quran and the previous scriptures), the belief in the Day of Judgment, and the belief in divine destiny (Qadr).
Aqeedah is considered an essential part of Islamic education, and Muslims are encouraged to learn about and understand their beliefs in order to strengthen their faith and practice. Islamic scholars have written extensively on the subject of aqeedah, and there are many books and resources available that explore the fundamental principles of Islam.
Here are some examples of the fundamental beliefs and principles of Aqeedah in Islam:
1. Belief in the Oneness of Allah (Tawheed): Muslims believe that there is only one God (Allah) who is the Creator, Sustainer, and Sovereign of the universe. This principle includes the belief in Allah's attributes, such as His Mercy, Justice, and Knowledge, and the rejection of any association of partners or intermediaries with Allah.
2. Belief in the Prophets and Messengers: Muslims believe in the prophets and messengers of Allah, including Adam, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad. They are considered to be chosen by Allah to convey His message to humanity and guide them towards righteousness and submission to Allah.
3. Belief in the Angels: Muslims believe in the existence of angels, who are created by Allah to carry out His commands and assist in the management of the universe. They are considered to be pure and obedient beings that worship Allah and carry out His will.
4. Belief in the Divine Books: Muslims believe in the divine books that were revealed to the prophets, including the Quran, the Torah, the Gospel, and the Psalms. The Quran is considered to be the final and complete revelation from Allah to humanity, and it contains guidance for all aspects of life.
5. Belief in the Day of Judgment: Muslims believe in the Day of Judgment, where all souls will be resurrected and held accountable for their deeds in this life. The righteous will be rewarded with paradise, while the sinful will be punished in hellfire.
6. Belief in Divine Destiny (Qadr): Muslims believe in the concept of divine destiny, which refers to Allah's knowledge and control over all things. This includes the belief that Allah has decreed everything that will happen in the universe, including human actions and choices, while still giving humans free will to make their own choices and be accountable for their actions.
These are some of the key principles of Aqeedah in Islam, and they form the foundation of a Muslim's faith and practice.
According to Quran
The principles of Aqeedah in Islam are based on the teachings of the Quran, which is considered to be the final and complete revelation from Allah to humanity. The Quran contains numerous verses that affirm the key principles of Aqeedah, including the belief in the Oneness of Allah (Tawheed), the belief in the prophets and messengers of Allah, the belief in the angels, the belief in the divine books, the belief in the Day of Judgment, and the belief in divine destiny (Qadr).
For example, in Surah Al-Ikhlas (Chapter 112), which is known as the chapter of Tawheed, Allah says:
"Say, He is Allah, [who is] One,
Allah, the Eternal Refuge.
He neither begets nor is born,
Nor is there to Him any equivalent."
This verse affirms the Oneness of Allah and rejects the notion of any partners or intermediaries with Allah.
Similarly, in Surah Al-Baqarah (Chapter 2), Allah says:
"Indeed, those who disbelieve in Allah and His messengers and wish to discriminate between Allah and His messengers and say, 'We believe in some and disbelieve in others,' and wish to adopt a way in between - Those are the disbelievers, truly. And We have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment."
This verse affirms the belief in the prophets and messengers of Allah and warns against rejecting any of them or adopting a middle way between belief and disbelief.
These are just a few examples of the Quranic verses that affirm the principles of Aqeedah in Islam. The Quran is considered the primary source of Islamic teachings, and Muslims turn to it for guidance and understanding of their faith.
According to Hadith
Here are some Hadiths (narrations of the sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad) that support the principles of Aqeedah in Islam:
On the belief in the Oneness of Allah (Tawheed), the Prophet Muhammad said in a Hadith narrated by Muslim:
"Whoever testifies that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, Who has no partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, and that Jesus is the servant of Allah and His messenger, and a word which He bestowed upon Mary and a spirit created by Him, and that Paradise is true and Hellfire is true, Allah will admit him into Paradise, whatever his deeds may be." (Muslim 1/33)
On the belief in the prophets and messengers, the Prophet Muhammad said in a Hadith narrated by Bukhari:
"Every Prophet was given miracles because of which people believed, but what I have been given is Divine Inspiration which Allah has revealed to me. So I hope that my followers will outnumber the followers of the other Prophets on the Day of Resurrection." (Bukhari 4/734)
On the belief in the angels, the Prophet Muhammad said in a Hadith narrated by Bukhari:
"Angels do not enter a house where there is a dog or a picture." (Bukhari 4/448)
On the belief in the divine books, the Prophet Muhammad said in a Hadith narrated by Tirmidhi:
"I leave among you two things, the Quran and the Sunnah (the Prophet's tradition), if you hold fast to them, you will never go astray." (Tirmidhi 2676)
On the belief in the Day of Judgment, the Prophet Muhammad said in a Hadith narrated by Muslim:
"The Hour (Day of Judgment) will not come until the sun rises from the west. When the people see it they will all believe, but that is when no good will it do to believe then, if one believed not before." (Muslim 1/118)
On the belief in Divine Destiny (Qadr), the Prophet Muhammad said in a Hadith narrated by Muslim:
"Nothing can change the Divine Decree except Dua (supplication). And nothing can increase the age of a person except good deeds." (Muslim 4/2044)
These are just a few examples of the Hadiths that support the principles of Aqeedah in Islam. There are many more Hadiths that affirm these principles and provide guidance and understanding to Muslims about their faith.
The six major beliefs in Islam, also known as the six articles of faith, are as follows:
1. Belief in One God (Tawheed): Muslims believe in the absolute oneness and unity of Allah, who is the only true God and the only one worthy of worship. This belief is the foundation of Islamic faith and is affirmed in the declaration of faith or Shahada.
2. Belief in Angels (Mala'ikah): Muslims believe in the existence of angels, who are created from light and serve as messengers and servants of Allah. Angels play a crucial role in Islamic theology and are mentioned frequently in the Quran and Hadith.
3. Belief in the Holy Books (Kutub): Muslims believe in the divine origin of the holy books revealed by Allah to His prophets, including the Quran, the Torah, the Psalms, and the Gospel. Muslims believe that the Quran is the final and complete revelation of Allah.
4. Belief in the Prophets (Nubuwwah): Muslims believe in the existence of prophets, who were sent by Allah to guide humanity and convey His message. Muslims believe in all the prophets mentioned in the Quran, including Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad (peace be upon them all).
5. Belief in the Day of Judgment (Yawm al-Qiyamah): Muslims believe in the Day of Judgment, when all humans will be held accountable for their deeds and will be judged by Allah. This belief is a reminder of the ultimate purpose of human existence and encourages Muslims to lead a righteous life.
6. Belief in Divine Decree (Qadar): Muslims believe in the divine decree or predestination, which means that everything that happens in the world is by Allah's will and has a purpose. Muslims believe that Allah has knowledge of all things, both past and future, and that He has complete control over everything.
According to Quran:
The six major beliefs in Islam, as mentioned earlier, are based on the teachings of the Quran, which is the holy book of Muslims and is considered to be the primary source of Islamic theology. The Quran affirms the following beliefs:
1. Belief in One God (Tawheed): The Quran affirms the absolute oneness and unity of Allah and emphasizes the importance of monotheism. For example, it says in Surah Al-Ikhlas (112:1-4): "Say: He is Allah, the One and Only; Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; He begetteth not, nor is He begotten; And there is none like unto Him."
2. Belief in Angels (Mala'ikah): The Quran mentions angels frequently and describes their role as messengers and servants of Allah. For example, it says in Surah Al-An'am (6:61): "And He is the Irresistible, above His servants, and He sends guardians (angels) over you. At length, when death approaches one of you, Our angels take his soul, and they never fail in their duty."
3. Belief in the Holy Books (Kutub): The Quran affirms the divine origin of the holy books revealed by Allah to His prophets, including the Torah, the Psalms, the Gospel, and the Quran. For example, it says in Surah Al-Imran (3:3-4): "He has revealed to you the Book with the truth, confirming what was before it; and He revealed the Torah and the Gospel. Before this, a guidance for the people, and He revealed the criterion (of right and wrong)."
4. Belief in the Prophets (Nubuwwah): The Quran mentions several prophets by name and affirms their role as messengers sent by Allah to guide humanity. For example, it says in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:136): "Say (O Muslims): We believe in Allah and that which is revealed unto us and that which was revealed unto Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the tribes, and that which Moses and Jesus received, and that which the prophets received from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and unto Him we have surrendered."
5. Belief in the Day of Judgment (Yawm al-Qiyamah): The Quran affirms the belief in the Day of Judgment, when all humans will be held accountable for their deeds and will be judged by Allah. For example, it says in Surah Al-Zalzalah (99:6-8): "So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it."
6. Belief in Divine Decree (Qadar): The Quran affirms the belief in divine decree or predestination, which means that everything that happens in the world is by Allah's will and has a purpose. For example, it says in Surah Al-Qamar (54:49-50): "Verily, all things have We created in proportion and measure. And Our Command is but a single (Act), like the twinkling of an eye."
According to Hadith:
The six major beliefs in Islam, according to Hadith (narrations of the sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad), are based on the teachings of the Quran and the Prophet's explanations of them. Here are the six major beliefs in Islam according to Hadith, along with their references:
1. Belief in One God (Tawheed): This is the fundamental belief in the oneness of Allah. The Prophet Muhammad said, "Whoever bears witness that there is no god but Allah alone, without partner or associate, and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, and that Jesus is the servant of Allah and His messenger, and a Word of Allah which He cast into Mary, and a spirit from Him, and that Paradise is true and Hell is true, Allah will admit him into Paradise, whatever his deeds may be." (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Book 2, Hadith 43)
2. Belief in Angels (Mala'ikah): This belief involves the acceptance of the existence and functions of angels as Allah's messengers and servants. The Prophet Muhammad said, "The angels were created from light, the jinn were created from a smokeless flame of fire, and Adam was created from what has been described to you." (Sahih Muslim, Book 1, Hadith 246)
3. Belief in the Holy Books (Kutub): Muslims are required to believe in the divine origin and authenticity of the Holy Books, including the Quran, Torah, Psalms, and Gospel. The Prophet Muhammad said, "I believe in Allah and His angels and His Books and His Messengers and in the Day of Judgment." (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Book 2, Hadith 47)
4. Belief in the Prophets (Nubuwwah): This belief involves the recognition and respect of all prophets of Allah, including Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad, peace be upon them all. The Prophet Muhammad said, "I am the nearest of all people to Jesus, son of Mary, because there was no prophet between me and him." (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Book 55, Hadith 652)
5. Belief in the Day of Judgment (Yawm al-Qiyamah): Muslims believe in the Day of Judgment, when all humans will be held accountable for their deeds and will be judged by Allah. The Prophet Muhammad said, "The Day of Resurrection will not come until the sun rises from the west." (Sahih Muslim, Book 1, Hadith 298)
6. Belief in Divine Decree (Qadar): This belief involves the recognition of Allah's ultimate control over all things and that everything happens by His will and for a purpose. The Prophet Muhammad said, "Be mindful of Allah and He will protect you. Be mindful of Allah and you will find Him in front of you. If you ask, ask of Allah. If you seek help, seek help from Allah. Know that if the nation were to gather together to benefit you with anything, it would benefit you only with something that Allah had already prescribed for you, and that if they gather together to harm you with anything, they would harm you only with something Allah had already prescribed for you." (Sunan Ibn Majah, Book 37, Hadith 4217)
In addition to the five pillars of Islam, there are other important aspects of the religion that are emphasized in the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Here are some of the key verses in the Quran and references in the Hadiths related to these aspects, along with their verse numbers:
Tawhid (monotheism):
"Say, 'He is Allah, [who is] One. Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, Nor is there to Him any equivalent.'" (Surah Al-Ikhlas 112:1-4)
"And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word." (Surah Al-Isra 17:23)
Taqwa (piety or God-consciousness):
"O you who have believed, fear Allah. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow - and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do." (Surah Al-Hasr 59:18)
"And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent." (Surah At-Talaq 65:2-3)
Adl (justice):
"O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted." (Surah An-Nisa 4:135)
"And give full measure when you measure, and weigh with an even balance. That is the best [way] and best in result." (Surah Ar-Rahman 55:9)
Ihsan (excellence):
"Ihsan is to worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you do not achieve this state of devotion, then (take it as if) Allah sees you." (Bukhari, Volume 9, Book 93, Number 621)
"The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, 'None of you [truly] believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.'" (Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 2, Number 12)
Quranic study and adherence to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad:
"So, [O Muhammad], be patient over what they say and exalt [ Allah ] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting; and during periods of the night [exalt Him] and at the extremes of the day, that you may be satisfied." (Surah Al-Hijr 15:98)
"And We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth, confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it. So judge between them by what Allah has
The Hadiths (the sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad) provide a wealth of information and guidance on various aspects of Islam, including additional details and emphasis on the five pillars of Islam. Here are a few additional teachings from the Hadiths and references with reference numbers:
Importance of intention (niyyah) in all actions: According to the Hadiths, the intention behind an action is what determines whether it is accepted by Allah. (Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 2, Number 8)
Good manners and character: The Hadiths emphasize the importance of good manners and character, such as honesty, kindness, and compassion, in all dealings. (Bukhari, Volume 8, Book 73, Number 1)
Tawhid (monotheism): The Hadiths emphasize the importance of Tawhid, the belief in the oneness of Allah, and warn against the dangers of shirk (polytheism or associating partners with Allah). (Bukhari, Volume 9, Book 93, Number 611)
Mercy and forgiveness: The Hadiths encourage Muslims to show mercy and forgiveness to others and to seek forgiveness from Allah. (Bukhari, Volume 8, Book 76, Number 489)
Importance of seeking knowledge: The Hadiths encourage Muslims to seek knowledge, especially religious knowledge, throughout their lives. (Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 1, Number 1)
These are just a few examples of the teachings and guidance found in the Hadiths and references, which provide a comprehensive and detailed understanding of Islam and its practices.
Sunan Ibn Majah » Establishing the Prayer and the Sunnah Regarding Them - كتاب إقامة الصلاة والسنة فيها
It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that the Prophet (saw) said:
“There is nothing standing between a person and Shirk (polytheism) except leaving the prayer, so if he leaves it he has committed Shirk.”

Mishkat al-Masabih » Prayer - كتاب الصلاة
‘Imran b. Husain said that the Prophet led them in prayer and forgot something, so he made two prostrations, then uttered the shahada, then gave the salutation. Tirmidhi transmitted it and said this is a hasan gharib tradition.
Abu Sa’id and Abu Hurairah (RAA) narrated that the messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H.) said:
“Remind those who are on their death bed of the Shahadah “La'Ilaha illall-ah.” (for them to say it, hoping it will be their last words)”

Narrated Abu Bakra (RA):
The Prophet (SAW) considered Shahadah az-Zur (giving false testimony) among the most serious of major sins. [al-Bukhari and Muslim reported it in a long Hadith].

Al-Bara,’ said that the bowing observed by the Prophet, his prostration, his sitting between the two sajdas, and when he raised his head after bowing, but not the standing [during recitation of the Qur’an] and the sitting [when saying the shahada, were nearly equal. (Bukhari and Muslim.)
Sunan Abi Dawud » Prayer (Kitab Al-Salat) - كتاب الصلاة
Rifa’ah b. Rafi has also narrated this tradition through a different chain from the Messenger of Allah(may peace be upon him). This version goes:
Then perform ablution in a way Allah, the exalted, has command you, then say the shahadah and get up and say the takbir. Then if you know any of the Qur’an, recite it; otherwise say: “Praise be to Allah”; “Allah is most great”; “ There is no god but Allah” He ( the narrator) also said in this version: If some defect remains in this, that detect will remain in your prayer.
Musnad Ahmad » Musnad Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (ra) - مُسْنَدُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ
Abu Hurairah said:
I heard Abu Bakr as-Siddeeq on this minbar saying: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on this day last year-then Abu Bakr wept, then he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: `You will not be given anything, after the word of sincerity (i.e., the Shahadah), like well-being, so ask Allah for well-being.”

She said: 'When he got up to pray at night he would start his prayer with the words: Allahumma Rabba Jibril wa Maika'il wa Israfil; Fatirus-samawati wal-ard, 'alim al-ghaybi wash-shahadah, anta tahkumu bayna 'ibadika fima kanu fihi yakhtalifun, Allahumma ihdini limakktulifa fihi min al-haqq innaka tahdi man tasha'ila siratin mustaqim (O Allah, Lord of Jibril, Mika'il and Israfil, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, You judge between Your slaves concerning wherein they differ. Sunan Ibn Majah » The Chapters on Marriage - كتاب النكاح
'Ali bin Husain said that Miswar bin Makhramah told him that:
'Ali bin Abu Talib proposed to the daughter of Abu Jahl, when he was married to Fatimah the daughter of the Prophet. When Fatimah heard of that she went to the Prophet, and said: "Your people are saying that you do not feel angry for your daughters. This 'Ali is going to marry the daughter of Abu Jahl." Miswar said: "The Prophet stood up, and I heard him when he bore witness (i.e., said the Shahadah), then he said: 'I married my daughter (Zainab) to Abul-As bin Rabi', and he spoke to me and was speaking the truth. Fatimah bint Muhammad is a part of me, and I hate to see her faced with troubles. By Allah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah and the daughter of the enemy of Allah will never be joined together in marriage to one man." He said: So, 'Ali abandoned the marriage proposal.

Mishkat al-Masabih » Prayer - كتاب الصلاة
Rifa'a b. Rafi' said that a man came and prayed in the mosque, after which he went and saluted the Prophet, who replied, “Repeat your prayer, for you have not prayed.” He asked him to teach him how to pray and he said:
When you face the qibla say the takbir; then recite Umm al-Qur’an* and what God wishes you to recite; when you bow place the palms of your hands on your knees, bowing completely and stretching out your back; when you raise yourself straighten your spine and raise your head so as to adopt an erect position; when you prostrate yourself do it completely; when you raise yourself sit on your left thigh; do that every time you bow and prostrate yourself till you are at rest, having finished your prayer. This is the wording of al-Masabih. *The first sura. Abu Dawud transmitted it with a slight alteration, and Tirmidhi and Nasa’i transmitted something to the same effect. In a version by Tirmidhi he said, “When you get up to pray perform the ablution as God commanded you, then say the shahada (The testimony that there is no god but God and that Muhammad is His messenger) and proceed with the prayer. If you know any of the Qur’an recite it, otherwise say, ‘Praise be to God; God is most great; there is no god but God.’ Then bow.”

Sahih Muslim » Introduction
Qutaybah bin Sa’īd narrated to us, Jarīr narrated to us, on authority of Mughīrah, on authority of Ibrāhīm [bin Yazīd an-Nakhā’ī], he said, Alqamah said:
‘I memorized the Qur’ān in two years’. Al-Hārith said: ‘The Qur’ān is easy; the revelation [i.e. the secret revelation to Alī in the belief of the Shī’ah] is more difficult ’.
The Prophet said, "Faith (Belief) consists of more than sixty branches (i.e. parts). And Haya (This term "Haya" covers a large number of concepts which are to be taken together; amongst them are self respect, modesty, bashfulness, and scruple, etc.) is a part of faith."

They swear by Allah that they said nothing, but they did utter the word of blasphemy, and they renounced faith after their submission. And they had ambitions they could not achieve. They were resentful only because Allah and His Messenger have enriched them out of His grace. If they repent, it will be better for them. But if they turn away, Allah will afflict them with a painful punishment—in this life and in the Hereafter—and on earth, they will have no protector and no helper.
