Zaqqum (tree) in Hell - according to the Quran

The Quran mentions the punishment of Hell for those who reject the truth, deny the Day of Resurrection, and persist in sinful behavior. The punishment in Hell is often described vividly and severely, highlighting the seriousness of turning away from Allah's guidance. Disbelievers will dwell in Hellfire forever, with no increase in reward except for an increase in punishment.

Zaqqum is a tree mentioned in the Quran as a plant that grows in the depths of Hell. According to Islamic tradition, it is a tree with thorny branches and foul-tasting fruit that resembles the heads of devils. Its leaves are said to be like the ears of devils, and its roots are like the heads of demons.

The Quran describes the tree of Zaqqum as a food for the people of Hell, and those who eat from it will experience great suffering and agony. The fruit of Zaqqum is said to be so bitter that it will cause the intestines to boil, and the water they drink will be so hot that it will scald their faces. The Quran mentions a tree called "Zaqqum" in relation to Hell. Here are some relevant verses:

Surah Al-Dukhan, verses 43-46:

"[They will be told], 'Indeed, the tree of zaqqum is food for the sinful. Like murky oil, it boils within bellies, like the boiling of scalding water. [It will be commanded], "Seize him and drag him into the midst of the Hellfire, then pour over his head from the torment of scalding water."'"

These verses describe the tree of zaqqum, which is said to be the food of the sinful. It is also compared to murky oil that boils within bellies and scalding water. The punishment for those who indulge in this tree is to be dragged into the midst of the Hellfire and have scalding water poured over their heads.

Surah Al-Waqi'ah, verses 52-56:

"And indeed, they were, before that, indulging in affluence. And they used to persist in the great violation. And they used to say, 'When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? And our forefathers [as well]?' Say, 'Indeed, the former and the later [generations] will be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day.' Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, will be eating from trees of zaqqum."

These verses describe the disbelief and denial of those who indulge in affluence and persist in great violation. They question whether they will be resurrected after death, but the Quran affirms that both the former and the later generations will be gathered together on the Day of Judgment. The punishment for those who deny this reality is to eat from the trees of zaqqum.

In summary, the Quran repeatedly mentions the punishment of Hell for those who reject the truth, deny the Day of Resurrection, and persist in sinful behavior. The descriptions of the punishment in Hell are often vivid and severe, emphasizing the seriousness of turning away from Allah's guidance.
