The story of Prophet Sulayman and the talking ants is a well-known story in Islamic tradition. It is said that one day, while Prophet Sulayman was travelling with his army, they came across a valley filled with ants. As they approached, the Prophet heard the ants speaking to one another in their tiny voices.
Surprised and curious, Sulayman asked Allah (God) to grant him the ability to understand the ants' speech. Allah granted his request, and the Prophet was able to hear the ants' conversation.
One of the ants warned the others to retreat into their homes to avoid being trampled by the approaching army, which was led by Sulayman. The ant said, "O ants, enter your dwellings, lest Sulayman and his armies crush you without knowing it."
Upon hearing this, Prophet Sulayman was filled with gratitude and awe for Allah's power and wisdom. He was amazed that even the smallest creatures had the ability to communicate and look out for one another.
The story of Sulayman and the talking ants is often cited as an example of the Prophet's kindness and compassion towards all of Allah's creatures, no matter how small or insignificant they may seem. It also serves as a reminder that every living being has a role to play in the natural world and should be treated with respect and care.
Quran Surah An-Naml 27: 9-19:
"[This is] a revelation of the Book from Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Wise. Indeed, within the heavens and earth are signs for the believers. And in the creation of yourselves and what He disperses of moving creatures are signs for people who are certain [in faith]. And [in] the alternation of night and day and [in] what Allah sends down from the sky of provision and gives life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness and [in His] directing of the winds are signs for a people who reason. These are the verses of Allah which We recite to you, [O Muhammad], in truth. Then in what statement after Allah and His verses will they believe? Woe to every sinful liar who hears the verses of Allah recited to him, then persists arrogantly as if he had not heard them. So give him tidings of a painful punishment. And when he knows anything of Our verses, he takes them in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment. Before them is Hell, and what they had earned will not avail them at all nor what they had taken besides Allah as allies. And they will have a great punishment."
In summary, the story, Sulayman and his army were passing through a valley when they heard the ants talking amongst themselves, warning each other to retreat into their homes to avoid being crushed by the approaching army. Sulayman, who was granted the ability to communicate with animals, heard the ants' conversation and was amazed. He thanked Allah for this gift and ordered his army to avoid crushing the ants. This story highlights the power and wisdom of Sulayman, as well as the importance of kindness and respect towards all creatures, no matter how small or insignificant they may seem.
