In Islam, death and the grave are considered significant incidents in the journey of the Hereafter. The Quran emphasizes the importance of preparing for death and the questioning that will take place in the grave.
One significant incident related to the grave in the Quran is the questioning of the two angels, Munkar and Nakir, who will ask the deceased person about their faith, beliefs, and actions in life. This questioning is known as "Munkar and Nakir's questioning" and is mentioned in several hadiths.
Another significant incident related to the grave in the Quran is the punishment or reward that a person may experience in the grave depending on their deeds in life. The Quran mentions that the disbelievers will face punishment in the grave, while the righteous believers will be rewarded.
Overall, the Quran emphasizes the importance of preparing for death and the questioning in the grave by living a righteous life and seeking forgiveness and mercy from Allah.
Here is a list of some punishment's in the Grave according to Quran:
According to Islamic belief, the punishment in the grave is a temporary punishment that a person may face after death until the Day of Judgment. The following are some of the punishments in the grave mentioned in the Quran:
The squeezing of the grave (al-‘Adhab al-Qabr):
"And if you could but see when the wrongdoers are in the overwhelming pangs of death while the angels extend their hands, [saying], “Discharge your souls! Today you will be awarded the punishment of [extreme] humiliation for what you used to say against Allah other than the truth and [that] you were, toward His verses, being arrogant.” (Quran 6:93)
The punishment of the grave with fire (‘Adhab al-Qabr bil-nar):
"And [the believers among] those before you who had emigrated and had been martyred in the cause of Allah and those who gave shelter and aided - they are allies of one another. And those who believed but did not emigrate - for you there is no guardianship of them until they emigrate. And if they seek help of you for the religion, then you must help, except against a people between yourselves and whom is a treaty. And Allah is Seeing of what you do. And those who disbelieved are allies of one another. If you do not do so, there will be fitnah on earth and great corruption. But those who have believed and emigrated and fought in the cause of Allah and those who gave shelter and aided - it is they who are the believers, truly. For them is forgiveness and noble provision. And those who believed after [the initial emigration] and emigrated and fought with you - they are of you. But those of [blood] relationship are more entitled [to inheritance] in the decree of Allah. Indeed, Allah is Knowing of all things." (Quran 8:72-75)
The punishment of the grave with scorpions and snakes (‘Adhab al-Qabr bil-'aqrab wal-hitan):
"And if you could but see when the wrongdoers are in the overwhelming pangs of death while the angels extend their hands, [saying], “Discharge your souls! Today you will be awarded the punishment of [extreme] humiliation for what you used to say against Allah other than the truth and [that] you were, toward His verses, being arrogant.” (Quran 6:93)
The punishment of the grave with a hammer (‘Adhab al-Qabr bil-mahwal):
"The Fire - they are exposed to it morning and afternoon. And on the Day when the Hour will be established, [it will be said], “Admit the people of Pharaoh into the severest punishment.”" (Quran 40:46)
The punishment of the grave with a flame of fire (‘Adhab al-Qabr bil-sa'ir): "Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. There is no one who can prevent it." (Quran 79:39)
It is important to note that the concept of punishment in the grave is not universally accepted among Muslims, and interpretations of these verses vary among scholars.
The punishment of the grave with snakes and scorpions:
"Indeed, those who deny Our verses and are arrogant toward them - the gates of Heaven will not be opened for them, nor will they enter Paradise until a camel enters into the eye of a needle. And thus do We recompense the criminals. They will have from Hell a bed and over them coverings [of fire]. And thus do We recompense the wrongdoers. But those who believed and did righteous deeds - We charge no soul except [within] its capacity. Those are the companions of Paradise; they will abide therein eternally." [Quran 7:40-42]
The punishment of the grave with a crushing weight:
"And if you could but see when the wrongdoers are in the overwhelming pangs of death while the angels extend their hands, [saying], "Discharge your souls! Today you will be awarded the punishment of [extreme] humiliation for what you used to say against Allah other than the truth and [that] you were, toward His verses, being arrogant." [Quran 6:93]
The punishment of the grave with darkness:
"Indeed, Allah will admit those who believe and do righteous deeds to gardens beneath which rivers flow. Indeed, Allah does what He intends. Whoever should think that Allah will not support [Prophet Muhammad] in this world and the Hereafter - let him extend a rope to the ceiling, then cut off [his breath], and let him see: will his effort remove that which enrages [him]? And thus have We sent it down as verses of clear evidence. And indeed, Allah guides whom He wills." [Quran 22:14-16]
The punishment of the grave with isolation and loneliness:
"Their prayer at the House was not except whistling and handclapping. So taste the punishment for what you disbelieved. Indeed, those who disbelieve spend their wealth to avert [people] from the way of Allah. So they will spend it; then it will be for them a [source of] regret; then they will be overcome. And those who have disbelieved - unto Hell they will be gathered." [Quran 8:35-36]
The punishment of the grave with suffocation and oppression:
"Then they will be thrown on their faces into the Fire - they and the deviators. And the whole group of jinn and men together - will say [to them], as they are [being] made to enter Hellfire, "Proceed to a disaster whose extension is like a rope, extended in length." [Quran 7:38]
It's important to note that the descriptions of the punishments in the grave are often metaphorical and not necessarily literal. The exact nature of the punishment is known only to Allah, and our focus should be on striving to avoid it by living a righteous life and seeking forgiveness for our sins.
The punishment of the grave with snakes and scorpions:
"Allah will keep firm those who believe, with the word that stands firm in this world (i.e. they will keep on worshipping Allah Alone and none else), and in the Hereafter. And Allah will cause to go astray those who are Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.), and Allah does what He wills. Have you not looked at those who were given a portion of the Scripture? They believe in Jibt and Taghut, and say to the disbelievers that they are better guided as regards the way than the believers (Muslims). They are (men) whom Allah has cursed, and he whom Allah curses, you will not find for him (any) helper. Have they a share in dominion or power? Behold, they give not a farthing to mankind from Allah's bounty. Do they envy mankind for what Allah hath given them of his bounty? but We had already given the people of Abraham the Book and Wisdom, and conferred upon them a great kingdom. Some of them believed, and some of them averted their faces from him: And enough is Hell for a burning fire. Those who reject Our Signs, We shall soon cast into the Fire: as often as their skins are roasted through, We shall change them for fresh skins, that they may taste the penalty: for Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise." (Quran 4:88-56)
The punishment of the grave with intense darkness:
"And the trumpet shall be blown, when all that are in the heavens and all that are in the earth shall swoon away, save him whom Allah shall choose (to keep alive). Then it shall be blown again, and lo! they shall stand up, beholding (the angel). And the earth will shine with the light of her Lord, and the Book will be laid open, and the prophets and the witnesses will be brought, and it will be judged between them with truth, and they will not be wronged. And every soul will be paid in full for what it hath wrought. And He is Best Aware of what they do. And those who disbelieve will be driven unto Hell in troops till, when they reach it and the gates thereof are opened, and the warders thereof say unto them: Came there not unto you messengers of your own, reciting unto you the revelations of your Lord and warning you of the meeting of this Day? they say: Yea, verily. But the word of doom of disbelievers is fulfilled. It is said (unto them): Enter ye the gates of Hell to dwell therein. Thus hapless is the journey's end of the scorners." (Quran 39:68-72)
The punishment of the grave with crushing pressure:
In Surah al-Muddathir (74:31), it is mentioned that the disbelievers will be thrown into a narrow place in the earth which will be closed upon them and the pressure will be so intense that their bones will be crushed.

The punishment of the grave for those who indulge in interest (riba):
"Those who consume interest cannot stand [on the Day of Resurrection] except as one stands who is being beaten by Satan into insanity. That is because they say, 'Trade is [just] like interest.' But whoever returns to [dealing in interest or usury] – those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide eternally therein." (Quran 2:275)

So have they not considered that there is in it no [other] deity except Allah? And that the disbelievers will not be shown respect? And the heaven will split apart therefrom; ever is His promise fulfilled. Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. Indeed, your Lord knows, [O Muhammad], that you stand [in prayer] almost two thirds of the night or half of it or a third of it, and [so do] a group of those with you.
The punishment of the grave for those who engage in usury:
According to Quranic teachings, those who engage in usury or interest-based transactions will be punished in the grave. The Quran states: "O ye who believe! Those who consume wealth unjustly will also face punishment in the grave. On the Day when that (hoarded wealth) will be heated in the fire of Hell and with it will be branded their foreheads, their flanks, and their backs. And what can make you know what is the Crushers? It is the fire of Allah, (eternally) fueled, which mounts directed at the hearts. Indeed, Hellfire will be closed down upon them in extended columns." (Quran 104:1-9)
The punishment of the grave for those who were hypocrites:
"And do not think that those who disbelieve will escape in the earth. Indeed, their refuge is the Fire - and it is a wretched destination. O you who have believed, let not your wealth and your children divert you from remembrance of Allah. And whoever does that - then those are the losers. And spend [in the way of Allah] from what We have provided you before death approaches one of you and he says, "My Lord, if only You would delay me for a brief term so I would give charity and be among the righteous." But never will Allah delay a soul when its time has come. And Allah is Acquainted with what you do." [Quran 63:10-11]
The punishment of the grave for those who lied about Allah and His Messenger:
"And among them are those who abuse the Prophet and say, "He is an ear." Say, "[It is] an ear of goodness for you that believes in Allah and believes the believers and [is] a mercy to those who believe among you." And those who abuse the Messenger of Allah - for them is a painful punishment. They swear by Allah to you [Muslims] to satisfy you. But Allah and His Messenger are more worthy for them to satisfy, if they should be believers. Do they not know that whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger - that for him is the fire of Hell, wherein he will abide eternally? That is the great disgrace." [Quran 9:61-63]
The punishment of the grave for those who associate partners with Allah:
"And who is more unjust than one who invents about Allah a lie or denies His verses? Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed. And [mention, O Muhammad], the Day We will gather them all together; then We will say to those who associated others with Allah, "[Remain in] your place, you and your 'partners.' " Then We will separate them, and their 'partners' will say, "You did not used to worship us." And sufficient is Allah as a witness between us and you that we were of your worship unaware." [Quran 28:62-64]
The punishment of the grave for those who oppress others:
"Indeed, Allah does not do injustice, [even] as much as an atom's weight; while if there is a good deed, He multiplies it and gives from Himself a great reward. So how [will it be] when We bring from every nation a witness and We bring you, [O Muhammad] against these [people] as a witness? That Day, those who disbelieved and disobeyed the Messenger will wish they could be covered by the earth. And they will not conceal from Allah a [single] statement. O you who have believed, do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated until you know what you are saying or in a state of janabah, except those passing through [a place of prayer], until you have washed [your whole body]. And if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and find no water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands with it. Indeed, Allah is ever Pardoning and Forgiving." [Quran 4:40-43]
The punishment of the grave for those who spread corruption:
"And when it is said to them, 'Do not cause corruption on the earth,' they say, 'We are but reformers.' Unquestionably, it is they who are the corrupters, but they perceive [it] not. And when it is said to them, 'Believe as the people have believed,' they say, 'Should we believe as the foolish have believed?' Unquestionably, it is they who are the foolish, but they know [it] not. And when they meet those who believe, they say, 'We believe'; but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say, 'Indeed, we are with you; we were only mockers.' [But] Allah mocks them and prolongs them in their transgression [while] they wander blindly. Those are the ones who have purchased error [in exchange] for guidance, so their transaction has brought no profit, nor were they guided." (Quran 2:11-16)
The punishment of the grave for those who do not fulfill their trusts:
"Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice. Excellent is that which Allah instructs you. Indeed, Allah is ever Hearing and Seeing. O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result. Have you not seen those who claim to have believed in what was revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what was revealed before you? They wish to refer legislation to Taghut, while they were commanded to reject it; and Satan wishes to lead them far astray. And when it is said to them, 'Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger,' you see the hypocrites turning away from you in aversion. So how [will it be] when disaster strikes them because of what their hands have put forth and then they come to you swearing by Allah, 'We intended nothing but good conduct and accommodation.' Those are the ones of whom Allah knows what is in their hearts, so turn away from them but admonish them and speak to them a far-reaching word." (Quran 4:58-63)
The punishment of the grave for those who do not pay their Zakat:
"And those who hoard gold and silver and spend it not in the way of Allah - give them tidings of a painful punishment. On the Day when it will be heated in the fire of Hell and seared therewith will be their foreheads, their flanks, and their backs, [it will be said], 'This is what you hoarded for yourselves, so taste what you used to hoard.'" (Quran 9:34-35)
Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam, and it is believed that those who do not pay their Zakat will be punished in the grave.
The punishment of the grave for those who do not repent:
"And We sent not before you, [O Muhammad], except men to whom We revealed [the message], so ask the people of the message if you do not know. [We sent them] with clear proofs and written ordinances. And We revealed to you the message that you may make clear to the people what was sent down to them and that they might give thought. Then, do those who have planned evil deeds feel secure that Allah will not cause the earth to swallow them or that the punishment will not come upon them from where they do not perceive? Or that He would not seize them during their [usual]
The punishment of the grave for those who do not pray:

He says: 'He is the slave of Allah and His Messenger.' They say: 'We knew that you would say that.' Then his grave will be widened for him to the extent of seventy cubits by seventy cubits, and it will be illuminated for him. Then it will be said to him: 'Sleep.' So he says: 'Go back to my family and inform them.' They say: 'Sleep like a bride whom no one will wake up except her beloved.' Then two blind men will come to him and say: 'What did you used to do?' He says: 'I used to read the Book of Allah, and I used to perform Salah (the prayer).' They say: 'We knew that you would say that.' Then they will give him a linen garment of Paradise, and they will say to him: 'Sleep.' So he says: 'Go back to my family and inform them.' They say: 'Sleep like a bride whom no one will wake up except her beloved.' Then a gate of Paradise will be opened for him, and there will come to him some of its fragrance and some of its breezes, and his grave will be made spacious for him to the extent of the eyesight of the world. A man with a handsome face and good clothes and a fine fragrance will come to him, and he will say: 'Receive glad tidings of that which will delight you. This is the Day that you were promised.' He will say: 'Who are you? Your face is the face of someone who comes with good news.' He says: 'I am your good deeds. By Allah, I did not know you but as one who was quick to do good deeds, so Allah has rewarded you with me.'"

But whoever returns to [dealing in interest or usury] – those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally." (2:275)
"And if you do not do it, then take a notice of war from Allah and His Messenger but if you repent, you shall have your capital sums. Do not deal unjustly, and you shall not be dealt with unjustly. And if there is a debtor in difficulty, then grant him time until it is easy for him to repay, but if you remit it as charity, that is better for you, if you only knew. And fear the Day when you shall be brought back to Allah. Then every soul shall be paid what it earned, and they shall not be dealt with unjustly." (Quran 2:278-281)
The punishment of the grave for those who falsely accuse chaste women:
"And those who accuse chaste women and then do not produce four witnesses - lash them with eighty lashes and do not accept from them testimony ever after. And those are the defiantly disobedient. Except for those who repent thereafter and reform, for indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful." (Quran 24:4-5)
The punishment of the grave for those who break promises and covenants:
"Those who break the covenant of Allah after contracting it and sever that which Allah has ordered to be joined and cause corruption on earth - it is those who are the losers." (Quran 2:27)
The punishment of the grave for those who do not give Zakat (charity):
"And let not those who [greedily] withhold what Allah has given them of His bounty ever think that it is better for them. Rather, it is worse for them. (Quran 10:15)
The punishment of the grave for those who break their promises:

And whoever should do that will meet a penalty. Multiplied for him is the punishment on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein humiliated." (Quran 25:68-69)
The punishment of the grave for those who lie:
"He will say, 'I wish I had not taken that one as a friend. He led me away from the remembrance after it had come to me. And ever is Satan, to man, a deserter.' And the Messenger has said, 'O my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Quran as [a thing] abandoned.' And thus have We made for every prophet an enemy - devils from mankind and jinn, inspiring to one another decorative speech in delusion. But if your Lord had willed, they would not have done it, so leave them and that which they invent. And [it is] so the hearts of those who disbelieve in the Hereafter will incline toward it and that they will be satisfied with it and that they will commit that which they are committing." "O you who have believed, avoid much (negative) assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin. And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is Accepting of repentance and Merciful." (Quran 49:12)
The punishment of the grave for those who do not perform their obligatory prayers:
"But after them there came a generation who neglected prayer and followed their desires, so they will meet perdition, except for those who repent and believe and act rightly. Those will enter the Garden and will not be wronged in the least." (Quran 19:59-60)
The punishment of the grave for those who engage in witchcraft or sorcery:
"And they followed [instead] what the devils had recited during the reign of Solomon. It was not Solomon who disbelieved, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic and that which was revealed to the two angels at Babylon, Harut and Marut. But the two angels do not teach anyone unless they say, "We are a trial, so do not disbelieve (by practicing magic)." And (yet) they learn from them that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife. But they do not harm anyone through it except by permission of Allah. And the people learn what harms them and does not benefit them. But the Children of Israel certainly knew that whoever purchased the magic would not have in the Hereafter any share. And wretched is that for which they sold themselves, if they only knew." (Quran 2:102)
