Rizq (sustenance or provision) according to the Quran

Rizq is an Arabic word that translates to "sustenance" or "provision." In Islamic theology, it refers to the material resources that Allah provides for his creation, including food, shelter, clothing, wealth, and other necessities of life.

Muslims believe that Allah is the ultimate provider of Rizq and that everything in the universe is under his control. As such, it is considered important for Muslims to trust in Allah's provisions and to work hard to earn a living while also recognizing that their sustenance ultimately comes from Allah.

Islamic teachings emphasize the importance of being content with the Rizq that Allah has provided and not to be envious or greedy for more. Muslims are encouraged to seek lawful means of earning Rizq and to be generous in sharing their wealth with others in need.

Overall, the concept of Rizq plays an important role in Islamic spirituality and ethics, reminding Muslims of their dependence on Allah and encouraging them to live their lives in accordance with his teachings.

It is worth noting that the concept of Rizq is not limited to material provisions. Muslims also believe in the provision of spiritual sustenance, including knowledge, wisdom, guidance, and spiritual well-being.

Here are some Quranic verses related to the concept of Rizq:

"And there is no creature on earth but that upon Allah is its provision, and He knows its place of dwelling and place of storage. All is in a clear register." (Quran 11:6)

"And so it is: whoever puts his trust in Allah—He will suffice him. Indeed Allah carries through His commands. Allah has set a measure to all things." (Quran 65:3)

"And whoever fears Allah, He will make for him a way out, and will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allah, then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent." (Quran 65:2-3)

"And He gives you all that you ask for. But if you count the favors of Allah, you will not be able to number them. Truly, man is very unjust, very ungrateful." (Quran 14:34)

"Say, “Who provides for you from the heaven and the earth? Who controls hearing and sight? Who brings forth the living from the dead, and the dead from the living? Who regulates all affairs?” They will say, “Allah.” Say, “Then why do you not fear Him?” (Quran 10:31)

"And do not kill your children out of poverty; We will provide for you and them. Indeed, their killing is ever a great sin." (Quran 17:31)

"And the earth—We have spread it out, and set therein firmly anchored mountains, and caused to grow therein every kind of balanced thing. And We have provided therein means of subsistence—for you and for those you do not provide for." (Quran 15:19-20)

"And We have certainly created for Hell many of the jinn and mankind. They have hearts with which they do not understand, they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear. Those are like livestock; rather, they are more astray. It is they who are the heedless." (Quran 7:179)

"Indeed, We have granted you [O Muhammad], a clear triumph, that Allah may forgive for you what preceded of your sin and what will follow and complete His favor upon you and guide you to a straight path." (Quran 48:1-2)

These verses highlight that Allah (SWT) is the ultimate provider of Rizq or sustenance for all creatures on earth, and that humans should trust in Him and rely on Him for their provision. It is also emphasized that humans should not kill their children out of poverty as Allah (SWT) will provide for them and their children, and that humans should be grateful for the favors and blessings that Allah (SWT) has bestowed upon them.

"And in the heaven is your provision and whatever you are promised." [Quran 51:22]

"Say, "Who provides for you from the heaven and the earth? Or who controls hearing and sight and who brings the living out of the dead and brings the dead out of the living and who arranges [every] matter?" They will say, "Allah," so say, "Then will you not fear Him?"" [Quran 10:31]

"And there is no creature on earth but that upon Allah is its provision, and He knows its place of dwelling and place of storage. All is in a clear register." [Quran 11:6]

"And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent." [Quran 65:2-3]
