Restrictions of Ihram

The state of Ihram in Umrah involves several restrictions that a pilgrim must observe. These restrictions are meant to ensure that the pilgrim remains in a state of spiritual purity and devotion throughout the pilgrimage. Some of the main restrictions of Ihram are:

  • Wearing regular clothes: During the state of Ihram, the pilgrim should wear only the two pieces of white cloth (Ihram) and should not wear any regular clothes, shoes or socks. This is meant to signify the pilgrim's detachment from worldly possessions.
  • Cutting hair or nails: The pilgrim should not cut their hair, beard or nails during the state of Ihram. This restriction applies to both men and women and is meant to signify the pilgrim's focus on the pilgrimage.
  • Applying perfumes or scents: The pilgrim should not apply any perfumes or scents during the state of Ihram. This is meant to signify the pilgrim's simplicity and purity.
  • Hunting or killing animals: The pilgrim should not hunt or kill any animals during the state of Ihram. This is meant to signify the pilgrim's respect for all living beings and the sanctity of life.
  • Engaging in sexual activity: The pilgrim should not engage in any sexual activity during the state of Ihram. This is meant to signify the pilgrim's focus on worship and devotion to Allah.
  • Arguing or fighting: The pilgrim should not argue or engage in any form of physical or verbal fighting during the state of Ihram. This is meant to signify the pilgrim's focus on peace and harmony.
  • Cutting or damaging plants: The pilgrim should not cut or damage any plants or trees during the state of Ihram. This is meant to signify the pilgrim's respect for nature and the environment.
  • Covering the head or face: Men should not cover their heads or faces during the state of Ihram, while women should cover their faces only if they fear being harassed. This is meant to signify the pilgrim's humility and openness.

It is important to note that these restrictions apply only to the state of Ihram and do not apply outside of it. The pilgrim should strive to observe these restrictions with sincerity and humility, as they are an important aspect of the pilgrimage and a way of showing devotion to Allah.
