The Quran teaches that seeking refuge with Allah is an important means of protection from evil and harm. This concept is emphasized in several verses throughout the Quran, including Surah Al-Falaq (113) and Surah An-Nas (114), which are known as the "two refuge-seeking chapters" in Islam.
In Surah Al-Falaq, Allah instructs the believers to seek refuge in Him from the mischief of the envious person and from the evil of the darkness when it settles. Similarly, in Surah An-Nas, Allah instructs the believers to seek refuge in Him from the whisperings of the devils.
The concept of seeking refuge with Allah is based on the belief that Allah is the ultimate protector and provider, and that nothing can harm a person unless it is allowed by Allah. Seeking refuge with Allah is therefore seen as a means of putting one's trust in Allah, and seeking His protection from all types of harm.
In Islamic practice, seeking refuge with Allah is often done through reciting certain prayers or supplications, such as Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas, as well as other prayers taught by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Muslims are encouraged to seek refuge with Allah in all aspects of their lives, especially during times of difficulty or danger, as a means of strengthening their faith and finding solace in Allah's protection.
Surah Al-Falaq:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak, from the evil of that which He created, and from the evil of darkness when it settles, and from the evil of the blowers in knots, and from the evil of an envier when he envies." Surah Al-Falaq is a prayer of seeking refuge in Allah from the harm of His creation, specifically from the evil of the darkness when it settles, the evil of the blowers in knots, and the evil of an envier when he envies. It is believed to have been revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a means of protection from the harm of the jinn, evil eye, and black magic
Surah An-Nas:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Say: "I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind,
The King of mankind,
The God of mankind,
From the evil of the whisperings of the devil who withdraws (after his whisperings),
Who whispers (evil) into the hearts of mankind,
From among the jinn and mankind."
Surah An-Nas is the 114th and final chapter of the Quran, and it seeks refuge in Allah from the evil whisperings of the devil. In this chapter, believers are encouraged to seek Allah's protection from the influence of the devil and his temptations, which can lead one astray from the right path. The chapter highlights that Allah is the only true God and the ultimate protector from all forms of harm, including the harm caused by the devil and his followers among the jinn and mankind.
This chapter is often recited as part of the daily prayers, as well as during times of distress or fear, to seek Allah's protection and guidance. It serves as a reminder that believers should always put their trust in Allah and seek His protection from all forms of evil and harm.
