The seven most destructive Sins in Islam

In Islam, there are major sins, also known as "Kabirah" or "Mortal" sins, which are considered to be the most destructive sins. These sins are also referred to as "Al-Kaba'ir" in Arabic.

The seven most destructive sins in Islam are:

  1. Shirk: Associating partners with Allah or worshipping other deities besides Allah.
  2. Murder: Unjustly taking the life of another person.
  3. Adultery or Fornication: Engaging in sexual relations outside of marriage.
  4. Stealing: Taking something that belongs to someone else without their permission.
  5. False testimony: Giving false testimony or lying under oath.
  6. Usury: Charging or paying interest on loans.
  7. Disobedience to parents: Disrespecting or disobeying one's parents or guardians.

Shirk: Associating partners with Allah or worshipping other deities besides Allah. This is considered the most severe sin in Islam as it goes against the core principle of the religion, which is the belief in the oneness of Allah (tawheed). Shirk can take many forms, such as believing that there are other gods besides Allah or worshipping idols, statues, or any other object as if they have divine power. In the Quran, Allah warns against shirk, stating:

"Verily, Allah forgives not that partners should be set up with Him (in worship), but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He wills" (Quran 4:48).

Murder: Unjustly taking the life of another person. This includes intentional killing, manslaughter, and negligence resulting in someone's death. Murder is considered a severe crime in Islam as it not only violates the right to life but also creates a chain reaction of harm to individuals and society. In the Quran, Allah states:

"Whosoever kills a human being, except as a punishment for murder or for spreading corruption in the land, shall be regarded as having killed all humanity; and that whosoever saves a human life shall be regarded as having saved all humanity" (Quran 5:32).

Adultery or Fornication: Engaging in sexual relations outside of marriage. This includes any sexual activity between individuals who are not married to each other. Adultery and fornication are considered major sins in Islam as they violate the sanctity of marriage and can lead to harm and societal problems. In the Quran, Allah warns against adultery and fornication, stating:

"And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse. Indeed, it is ever an immorality and is evil as a way" (Quran 17:32).

Stealing: Taking something that belongs to someone else without their permission. Stealing is considered a major sin in Islam as it violates the rights of others and can lead to harm and societal problems. In the Quran, Allah warns against stealing, stating:

"As for the thief, male or female, cut off his or her hands; but those who repent after having done wrong and reform themselves can expect Allah to be Forgiving and Merciful" (Quran 5:38).

False testimony: Giving false testimony or lying under oath. False testimony is considered a major sin in Islam as it violates the rights of others and can lead to injustice. In the Quran, Allah warns against false testimony, stating:

"And do not conceal testimony, for whoever conceals it - his heart is indeed sinful. And Allah is Knowing of what you do" (Quran 2:283).

Usury: Charging or paying interest on loans. Usury is considered a major sin in Islam as it exploits the poor and can lead to economic problems. In the Quran, Allah warns against usury, stating:

"Those who consume interest cannot stand [on the Day of Resurrection] except as one stands who is being beaten by Satan into insanity. That is because they say, 'Trade is [just] like interest.' But Allah has permitted trade and has forbidden interest" (Quran 2:275).

Disobedience to parents: Disrespecting or disobeying one's parents or guardians. Disobedience to parents is considered a major sin in Islam as it violates the commandment to honor and respect one's parents. In the Quran, Allah commands believers to be dutiful to their parents, stating:

"And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment.

These sins are considered to be major sins because they go against the fundamental principles of Islam and harm both individuals and society as a whole. Muslims are encouraged to avoid committing these sins and seek forgiveness if they do so.
