In the Quran, Yajuj and Majuj (also known as Gog and Magog in some translations) are mentioned as a group of people or creatures who are associated with destruction and chaos. They are described as a tribe or nation that is separated from the rest of humanity by a great barrier or wall. The Quran states that they are being held back from causing widespread destruction and mischief, but that they will eventually be released at a time appointed by Allah.
According to one hadith, Yajuj and Majuj were descendants of Adam and Eve, specifically their son Yafith. The hadith states that Yafith's descendants were large in number and migrated to different parts of the world. Some of them settled behind a mountain, where they were trapped by Allah due to their wickedness. This mountain is referred to as the Barrier or the Wall of Dhul-Qarnayn in Islamic tradition.
The Quran and hadiths describe Yajuj and Majuj as being held back by a barrier or wall, which will be removed when the end of the world draws near. After this, they will be released and will cause widespread destruction and chaos on the earth. Some traditions say that they will be led by a figure known as Dajjal, who will bring deception and confusion to the world.
Muslims believe that the coming of Yajuj and Majuj is a sign of the end times, and that their release from behind the barrier is a sign that the Day of Judgment is approaching. The Quran and Islamic tradition teach that the best way to prepare for the end times is to lead a righteous life, worship Allah alone, and follow the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad.
The following are some of the verses in the Quran that mention Yajuj and Majuj:
"Until, when [the dam of] Gog and Magog has been opened and they, from every elevation, descend." (Quran 21:96)
"He said, 'This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of my Lord comes, He will make it level, and the promise of my Lord is true.' And We will leave them that day surging over each other, and [then] the Horn will be blown, and We will assemble them in [one] assembly." (Quran 18:98)
"And [mention] when We said to the angels, 'Prostrate to Adam,' and they prostrated, except for Iblees. He was of the jinn and departed from the command of his Lord. Then will you take him and his descendants as allies other than Me while they are enemies to you? Wretched it is for the wrongdoers as an exchange. I did not make them witness to the creation of the heavens and the earth or to the creation of themselves, and I would not have taken the misguiders as assistants. And [warn of] the Day when We will say, 'Go to those who associated with Us partners whom you [claim to] have a connection.' Then We will present to them their deeds, and the witnesses will say, 'These are the ones whom you used to invoke besides Allah.' Then they will invoke Allah [instead], but He will not respond to them, and they will see the punishment. If only they had followed guidance!" (Quran 18:50)
The identity and nature of Yajuj and Majuj are the subject of much debate and speculation among scholars and commentators. Some interpret them as literal tribes or nations who will one day wreak havoc on the world, while others see them as symbolic representations of human tendencies towards violence and chaos. Nonetheless, the Quranic mention of Yajuj and Majuj serves as a warning of the consequences of straying from the path of righteousness and faith.
"Until, when [the dam of] Gog and Magog has been opened and they, from every elevation, descend." (Quran 21:96)
"And they ask you about Dhul-Qarnayn. Say, "I will recite to you about him a report." Indeed We established him upon the earth, and We gave him to everything a way. So he followed a way until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it [as if] setting in a spring of black mud, and he found near it a people. Allah said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, either you punish [them] or else adopt among them [a way of] goodness." He said, "As for one who wrongs, we will punish him. Then he will be returned to his Lord, and He will punish him with a terrible punishment. But as for one who believes and does righteousness, he will have a reward of Paradise, and we will speak to him from our command with ease." Then he followed a way until, when he came to the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had not made against it any shield." (Quran 18:83-90)
While the first verse mentions the descent of Yajuj and Majuj, the second verse mentions the story of Dhul-Qarnayn, who is traditionally believed to have built a barrier to keep Yajuj and Majuj from harming people. However, the Quran does not explicitly mention this barrier as being built to contain Yajuj and Majuj.
There are no other verses in the Quran that mention Yajuj and Majuj by name. However, some scholars have interpreted other verses to refer to them indirectly. For example, in Surah Al-Anbiya (21:104), Allah says, "On the Day when We will roll up the heavens like the rolling up of a scroll for books [completed], as We began the first creation, We will repeat it. [That is] a promise binding upon Us. Indeed, We will do it." Some scholars believe that this verse refers to the release of Yajuj and Majuj, who will cause such destruction on the earth that the heavens themselves will need to be rolled up. However, this interpretation is not universally accepted. These sources provide more detailed descriptions of their characteristics, behavior, and role in the end times.
In summary, the people of Yajuj and Majuj are a group of people who are mentioned in the Quran as being among the signs of the end times. They are described as a fierce and destructive people who will be released from behind a barrier that was built to contain them. According to Islamic tradition, they will wreak havoc on the earth, killing and destroying everything in their path. Some scholars believe that they represent a real historical group, while others interpret them as symbolic or metaphorical.
