Salah (Namaz) according to the Quran

Salah, also known as prayer, is an act of worship in Islam. It is one of the five pillars of Islam, along with the declaration of faith (shahada), giving to charity (zakat), fasting during Ramadan, and performing the pilgrimage to Mecca (hajj).

Muslims are required to perform Salah five times a day, at specific times throughout the day. The timings are based on the position of the sun, and the prayer times vary depending on the location and season.

The prayer consists of a series of physical movements, recitation of Quranic verses, and supplications. It begins with the recitation of the opening chapter of the Quran, known as Al-Fatiha, followed by other chapters or verses of the Quran.

During the prayer, the worshipper stands, bows, prostrates, and sits in a specific manner, while reciting verses and supplications. The prayer ends with the recitation of the greetings of peace, followed by supplications and blessings.

Salah is seen as a means of connecting with Allah, seeking His forgiveness, and expressing gratitude for His blessings. It is also a way of seeking guidance, strength, and protection. Through prayer, Muslims aim to purify their hearts, strengthen their faith, and increase their devotion to Allah.

Here are some Quranic verses related to Salah:

"Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times." [Quran 4:103]

"And establish prayer and give zakah and bow with those who bow [in worship and obedience]." [Quran 2:43]

"And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allah]." [Quran 2:45]

"Recite, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do." [Quran 29:45]

"Guard strictly the (five obligatory) prayers, especially the middle prayer and stand before Allah in obedience." [Quran 2:238]

"So woe to those who pray [but] who are heedless of their prayer." [Quran 107:4-5]

"Indeed, I am Allah. There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance." [Quran 20:14]

"And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approach of the night. Indeed, good deeds do away with misdeeds. That is a reminder for those who remember." [Quran 11:114]

"Successful indeed are the believers. Those who offer their prayers with all solemnity and full submissiveness." [Quran 23:1-2]

These verses highlight the importance of Salah in Islam and emphasize that it is a mandatory act of worship that Muslims must perform at specific times. Salah serves as a means of connecting with Allah and seeking His help and guidance through patience and remembrance. It is also a means of purifying oneself from sins and wrongdoing and attaining success in both this world and the Hereafter.

"And establish prayer and give zakah, and whatever good you put forward for yourselves - you will find it with Allah. Indeed, Allah of what you do, is Seeing." (Quran 2:110)

"Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times." (Quran 4:103)

"And those who, when they spend, do so not excessively or sparingly but are ever, between that, [justly] moderate. And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity or kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed], except by right, and do not commit unlawful sexual intercourse. And whoever should do that will meet a penalty. Multiplied for him is the punishment on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein humiliated - Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous work. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with good. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful. And he who repents and does righteousness does indeed turn to Allah with [accepted] repentance." (Quran 25:67-71)

"Recite, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do." (Quran 29:45)

"Indeed, I am Allah. There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance." (Quran 20:14)

"Successful indeed are the believers who are humble in their prayers." (Quran 23:1-2)

"So woe to those who pray but are heedless of their prayer - those who make show [of their deeds] and withhold [simple] assistance." (Quran 107:4-7)

"O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient." (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:153)

"Guard strictly your (habit of) prayers, especially the Middle Prayer; and stand before Allah in a devout (frame of mind)." (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:238)

"So establish prayer and give zakah and hold fast to Allah. He is your protector; and excellent is the protector, and excellent is the helper." (Surah Al-Hajj 22:78)

"And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approach of the night. Indeed, good deeds do away with misdeeds. That is a reminder for those who remember." (Surah Hud 11:114)

"And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allah]." (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:45)

"Then, when the prayer is ended, you may disperse through the land, and seek the Bounty of Allah: and celebrate the Praises of Allah often (and without stint): that you may prosper." (Surah Al-Jumu'ah 62:10)

"And establish prayer and give zakah and obey the Messenger - that you may receive mercy." (Surah An-Nur 24:56)

These verses emphasize the importance of Salah as a fundamental act of worship for Muslims, and how it is connected to other aspects of faith, such as patience, charity, and obedience to Allah and His Messenger.

"And establish prayer and give zakah and bow with those who bow [in worship and obedience]." [Quran 2:43]

"And enjoin prayer upon your family [and people] and be steadfast therein. We ask you not for provision; We provide for you, and the [best] outcome is for [those of] righteousness." [Quran 20:132]

"Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds and establish prayer and give zakah will have their reward with their Lord, and there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve." [Quran 2:277]

"Recite, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do." [Quran 29:45]

These verses emphasize the importance of establishing prayer, seeking help through prayer and patience, the connection between prayer and righteousness, the prohibition of immorality and wrongdoing through prayer, and the reward for those who establish prayer and do righteous deeds.

In summary, Salah is the Islamic ritual prayer that Muslims perform five times a day. It is one of the five pillars of Islam and is considered a fundamental act of worship. Salah is a physical and spiritual act of submission to Allah, and it is performed facing the Kaaba in Mecca. The verses from the Quran that mention Salah emphasize its importance, remind believers to perform it regularly, and highlight the spiritual benefits of performing it with devotion and sincerity.
