Qadar, also spelled Qadha, is an Arabic term that refers to the concept of predestination or divine decree. It is the Islamic belief that everything that happens in the universe has been preordained by Allah, including human actions and their consequences, both good and bad. Muslims believe that Allah is the ultimate controller of destiny and that everything that occurs is a manifestation of His divine will.
The concept of Qadar is a central tenet of Islamic faith and is mentioned in the Quran many times. It is considered one of the six articles of faith in Islam, along with belief in Allah, the angels, the prophets, the holy books, and the Day of Judgment. The belief in Qadar implies that Muslims should accept what happens to them as the will of Allah and trust in His plan for their lives.
At the same time, Muslims are also encouraged to make efforts to improve their lives and the lives of others around them. Islam teaches that humans have been given free will to make choices and take actions, and that these actions are an essential part of the divine plan. Muslims are instructed to work hard, help others, and strive to do good, while also acknowledging that the ultimate outcome of their efforts is in the hands of Allah.
Qadar is a complex and multifaceted concept, and different scholars and Islamic schools of thought have developed various interpretations and understandings of its meaning and implications. However, the central belief in Qadar remains a fundamental aspect of Islamic faith and provides a framework for understanding the purpose and meaning of life in Islam.
Here are some Quranic verses on Qadar:
"Indeed, We have created everything with Qadar (divine preordainment)." [Al-Qamar 54:49]
"And with Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them except Him. And He knows what is on the land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls but that He knows it. And no grain is there within the darknesses of the earth and no moist or dry [thing] but that it is [written] in a clear record." [Al-An'am 6:59]
"And We have already created man and know what his soul whispers to him, and We are closer to him than [his] jugular vein." [Qaf 50:16]
"And you do not will except that Allah wills - Lord of the worlds." [Al-Takwir 81:29]
"Indeed, Allah does not do injustice, [even] as much as an atom's weight; while if there is a good deed, He multiplies it and gives from Himself a great reward." [Al-Nisa' 4:40]
These verses demonstrate the concept of Qadar (divine preordainment) in Islam, which highlights the belief that everything in the universe is predetermined by Allah (God) and nothing occurs without His knowledge and will.
"Say, "Nothing will happen to us except what Allah has decreed for us; He is our protector." And upon Allah let the believers rely." (Quran 9:51)
"And never say about anything, "Indeed, I will do that tomorrow," except [when adding], "If Allah wills." And remember your Lord when you forget [it] and say, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to what is nearer than this to right conduct."" (Quran 18:23-24)
"Indeed, We have created all things with qadar (Divine Predestination)." (Quran 54:49)
"And We have already created man and know what his soul whispers to him, and We are closer to him than [his] jugular vein. When the two receivers receive, seated on the right and on the left. Man does not utter any word except that with him is an observer prepared [to record]." (Quran 50:16-18)
"Indeed, Allah is with those who fear Him and those who are doers of good." (Quran 16:128)
These verses emphasize the concept of Divine Predestination (Qadar), that everything that happens is ultimately decreed by Allah. However, this does not mean that human beings do not have free will or that they are not accountable for their actions. Rather, humans are responsible for making the best choices they can, while always remembering that ultimately the outcomes are up to Allah's decree.
"And We have already created man and know what his soul whispers to him, and We are closer to him than [his] jugular vein. When the two receivers receive, seated on the right and on the left. Man does not utter any word except that with him is an observer prepared [to record]." (Quran 50:16-18)
"And it is not [possible] for one to die except by permission of Allah at a decree determined. And whoever desires the reward of this world - We will give him thereof; and whoever desires the reward of the Hereafter - We will give him thereof. And we will reward the grateful." (Quran 3:145)
"Do they not see that We have created for them from what Our hands have made, grazing livestock, and [then] they are their owners? And We have tamed them for them, so some of them they ride, and some of them they eat. And for them therein are [other] benefits and drinks, so will they not be grateful? But they have taken besides Allah [false] deities that perhaps they would be helped." (Quran 36:71-74)
"He arranges [each] matter from the heaven to the earth; then it will ascend to Him in a Day, the extent of which is a thousand years of those which you count." (Quran 32:5)
"And those who disbelieve say, "The Hour will not come to us." Say, "Yes, by my Lord, it will surely come to you. [Allah is] the Knower of the unseen." Not absent from Him is an atom's weight within the heavens or within the earth or [what is] smaller than that or greater, except that it is in a clear register." (Quran 34:3)
"He arranges [each] matter from the heaven to the earth; then it will ascend to Him in a Day, the extent of which is a thousand years of those which you count." (32:5)
"And with Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them except Him. And He knows what is on the land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls but that He knows it. And no grain is there within the darknesses of the earth and no moist or dry [thing] but that it is [written] in a clear record." (6:59)
"Do they not see that Allah extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]? Indeed, in that are signs for a people who believe." (39:52)
"And if Allah should touch you with adversity, there is no remover of it except Him; and if He intends for you good, then there is no repeller of His bounty. He causes it to reach whom He wills of His servants. And He is the Forgiving, the Merciful." (10:107)
"Indeed, all things We created with predestination." (54:49)
These verses highlight the concept of Qadar in Islam, which emphasizes that everything is under the control and will of Allah.
"Verily, We have created all things with Qadar (Divine Preordainments of all things before their creation, as written in the Book of Decrees Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz)." (Quran 54:49)
"And We have already created man and know what his soul whispers to him, and We are closer to him than [his] jugular vein." (Quran 50:16)
"No disaster strikes upon the earth or among yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being - indeed that, for Allah, is easy." (Quran 57:22)
"And there is not a thing but that with Us are its depositories, and We do not send it down except according to a known measure." (Quran 15:21)
"Say, 'Never will we be struck except by what Allah has decreed for us; He is our protector.' And upon Allah let the believers rely." (Quran 9:51)
"And if Allah had willed, He could have made you [of] one religion, but He causes to stray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And you will surely be questioned about what you used to do." (Quran 16:93)
These verses emphasize that Allah has complete control over all things and that everything is predetermined by Him. At the same time, they also remind us that we have free will and will be held accountable for our actions.
"And with Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them except Him. And He knows what is on the land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls but that He knows it. And no grain is there within the darknesses of the earth and no moist or dry [thing] but that it is [written] in a clear record." (Quran 6:59)
This verse emphasizes the idea that Allah has complete knowledge and control over everything, including the unseen and the future. It highlights the concept of predestination and the idea that Allah has already determined everything that will happen in the universe.
Qadar is the Islamic belief in divine destiny. It is the concept that Allah has complete control over everything that happens in the universe. Muslims believe that everything is predetermined by Allah, including life and death, success and failure, and good and bad. This belief is based on several Quranic verses and Hadiths, which emphasize the idea that Allah's knowledge and power are absolute and that everything happens according to His will. Muslims are encouraged to accept and submit to Allah's decree, even if it is difficult to understand or accept. The concept of Qadar is an essential part of Islamic theology and is considered to be one of the six articles of faith in Islam.
