Jahannam according to the Quran

Jahannam is an Arabic term for hell or the inferno. It is used in the Quran to refer to the place of punishment for those who disobey God's commandments.

The concept of Jahannam in the Quran is associated with the idea of accountability and punishment for those who commit evil deeds or reject God's guidance. It is described as a place of torment, suffering, and agony for those who have disobeyed God's commandments and rejected His guidance.

In the Quran, Jahannam is described as a place of intense heat, fire, and darkness, where the souls of the disobedient will be punished for their transgressions. The Quran also mentions different levels of punishment in Jahannam, depending on the severity of the sins committed.

However, the Quran also emphasizes the importance of repentance and turning back to God's guidance, as this can lead to forgiveness and salvation from the punishment of Jahannam.

Here are some Quranic verses that mention Jahannam:

"Verily, those who reject Our Signs, We shall soon cast into the Fire: as often as their skins are roasted through, We shall change them for fresh skins, that they may taste the penalty: for Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise." (Quran 4:56)

"But those who reject Faith and belie Our Signs, they shall be companions of Hell-fire." (Quran 5:10)

"And if any have done evil deeds and thereafter have repented and believed, verily thy Lord is thereafter Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (Quran 7:153)

"Verily, the hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of the Fire: no helper wilt thou find for them." (Quran 4:145)

"And fear the Fire, which is prepared for those who reject Faith." (Quran 3:131)

"Indeed, those who disbelieve in Our verses - We will drive them into a Fire. Every time their skins are roasted through We will replace them with other skins so they may taste the punishment. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted in Might and Wise." (Quran 4:56)

"And whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, he will have a depressed life, and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection blind. He will say, "My Lord, why have you raised me blind while I was [once] seeing?" [Allah] will say, "Thus did Our signs come to you, and you forgot them; and thus will you this Day be forgotten." And thus do We recompense he who transgressed and did not believe in the signs of his Lord. And the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and more enduring." (Quran 20:124-127)

"And they will say, 'If only we had listened or reasoned, we would not be among the companions of the Blaze.' And they will admit their sin, so [it is] alienation for the companions of the Blaze." (Quran 67:10-11)

"Indeed, Allah has cursed the disbelievers and prepared for them a Blaze. Abiding therein forever, they will not find a protector or a helper." (Quran 33:64-65)

"Indeed, We have prepared for the wrongdoers a fire whose walls will surround them. And if they call for relief, they will be relieved with water like murky oil, which scalds [their] faces. Wretched is the drink, and evil is the resting place." (Quran 18:29)

"And fear the Fire, which has been prepared for the disbelievers." (Quran 3:131)

"So today no ransom will be taken from you or from those who disbelieved. Your refuge is the Fire. It is most worthy of you, and wretched is the destination." (Quran 57:15)

"Those who reject Our signs, We shall soon cast into the Fire: as often as their skins are roasted through, We shall change them for fresh skins, that they may taste the penalty: for Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise." (Quran 4:56)

"But as for those who disbelieve, their patrons are false deities. They bring them out of light into darkness. Such are rightful owners of the Fire. They will abide therein." (Quran 2:257)

"Those who reject Allah and hinder men from the Path of Allah, for them will We add Penalty to Penalty; for that they used to spread mischief." (Quran 16:88)

"And those who reject Faith and belie Our Signs, they shall be companions of Hell-fire." (Quran 5:10)

"And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, then indeed, for him is the fire of Hell; they will abide therein forever." (Quran 72:23)

"Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire), They and those straying in evil, And the whole hosts of Iblis together." (Quran 26:94-95)

"And whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, he will have a depressed life, and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection blind. He will say, 'My Lord, why have you raised me blind while I was [once] seeing?' [ Allah ] will say, 'Thus did Our signs come to you, and you forgot them; and thus will you this Day be forgotten.' And thus do We recompense he who transgressed and did not believe in the signs of his Lord. And the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and more enduring." (Quran 20:124-127)

And the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and more enduring." (Quran 17:97)

"And fear the Fire, which has been prepared for the disbelievers." (Quran 3:131)

"And they will say, 'If only we had been listening or reasoning, we would not be among the companions of the Blaze.'" (Quran 67:10)

These verses serve as a warning about the punishment that awaits those who reject Allah's signs and guidance and persist in their disobedience. They describe Jahannam as a place of intense suffering, darkness, and eternal punishment for those who choose to turn away from the path of righteousness.

"Indeed, those who disbelieve in Our verses - We will drive them into a Fire. Every time their skins are roasted through We will replace them with other skins so they may taste the punishment. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted in Might and Wise." (Quran 4:56)

"Indeed, those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers - never would the [whole] capacity of the earth in gold be accepted from one of them if he would [seek to] ransom himself with it. For those there will be a painful punishment, and they will have no helpers." (Quran 3:91)

"The Day their faces will be turned about in the Fire, they will say, "How we wish we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger." And they will say, "Our Lord, indeed we obeyed our masters and our dignitaries, and they led us astray from the [right] way. Our Lord, give them double the punishment and curse them with a great curse." (Quran 33:66-68)

"But as for he who feared the position of his Lord and prevented the soul from [unlawful] inclination, then indeed, Paradise will be [his] refuge." (Quran 79:40-41)

"And they will cry out therein, "Our Lord, remove us; we will do righteousness - other than what we were doing!" But did We not grant you life enough for whoever would remember therein to remember, and the warner had come to you? So taste [the punishment], for there is not for the wrongdoers any helper." (Quran 35:37)

"And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger and transgresses His limits - He will put him into the Fire to abide eternally therein, and he will have a humiliating punishment." (Quran 4:14)

"And fear the Fire, which has been prepared for the disbelievers." (Quran 3:131)

"But as for those who disbelieve, for them is fire of Hell; it takes not away their lives nor their possessions, a thing most unjust." (Quran 35:36)

"The Day when they will be dragged into the Fire on their faces [it will be said], "Taste the touch of Saqar." (Quran 54:48)

"Indeed, those who deny Our verses and are arrogant toward them - the gates of Heaven will not be opened for them, nor will they enter Paradise until a camel enters into the eye of a needle. And thus do We recompense the criminals. They will have from Hell a bed and over them coverings [of fire]. And thus do We recompense the wrongdoers." (Quran 7:40-41)

"Indeed, those who disbelieve in Our verses - We will drive them into a Fire. Every time their skins are roasted through We will replace them with other skins so they may taste the punishment. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted in Might and Wise." (Quran 4:56)

"Indeed, those who disbelieve in Allah and His messengers and wish to discriminate between Allah and His messengers and say, "We believe in some and disbelieve in others," and wish to adopt a way in between - Those are the disbelievers, truly. And We have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment." (Quran 4:150-151)

"And what will make you know what is Saqar? It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], altering the skins." (Quran 74:27-29)

Jahannam is the Arabic word for "Hell" and is mentioned several times in the Quran as a place of punishment for those who reject God's guidance and commit evil deeds. The Quran describes Jahannam as a place of intense heat, fire, and torment, where the disbelievers and wrongdoers will reside for eternity. Verses in the Quran describe the punishments and horrors of Jahannam, as well as the types of people who will be sent there. The concept of Jahannam serves as a reminder to believers of the consequences of disobeying God and committing sins. It also highlights the importance of seeking God's forgiveness and guidance to avoid such a fate.
