Hidayah according to the Quran

Hidayah is an Arabic term that can be translated as guidance or direction. In Islamic theology, it refers to the guidance that Allah provides to people who seek it. Muslims believe that Allah is the ultimate source of guidance and that His guidance is essential to living a good life and achieving success in the afterlife.

The Quran is considered to be the primary source of hidayah for Muslims, as it contains the teachings and guidance of Allah. Muslims believe that by studying the Quran and following its teachings, they can gain a deeper understanding of Allah's will and purpose for their lives. The Quran provides guidance on all aspects of life, including morality, ethics, spirituality, and social behavior.

Muslims also believe that Allah provides hidayah through other means, such as through the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the example of righteous people, and through personal experiences and reflections. Muslims are encouraged to seek hidayah through prayer, meditation, and reflection on Allah's signs and blessings in the world.

The concept of hidayah is central to Islamic belief and practice, as Muslims believe that it is only through Allah's guidance that they can attain success and eternal happiness. Muslims are encouraged to seek Allah's guidance throughout their lives, and to continually strive to improve their relationship with Allah and their understanding of His teachings.

Hidayah is an Arabic term that refers to guidance, direction, or instruction. In the Quran, the term is used to refer to the guidance that Allah provides to believers who seek it. The Quran teaches that Allah is the ultimate source of guidance and that those who seek Him with sincerity will be granted guidance and success.

The concept of hidayah is central to Islamic belief and practice, as Muslims believe that it is only through Allah's guidance that they can attain salvation and eternal happiness. The Quran teaches that Allah guides those who believe in Him and follow His commands, and that He leads them to the straight path that leads to success in this life and in the hereafter.

Here are a few Quranic verses that mention hidayah:

"This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah" (Quran 2:2).

"Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - they will have the Gardens of Paradise as a lodging, wherein they abide eternally. They will not desire from it any transfer" (Quran 18:107-108).

"And We have certainly made the Quran easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?" (Quran 54:17)

"Indeed, Allah is with those who fear Him and those who are doers of good" (Quran 16:128).

These verses and others like them emphasize the importance of seeking Allah's guidance through the Quran and following His commands in order to attain success and eternal happiness. The Quran serves as a source of hidayah for Muslims, providing them with guidance on how to live their lives in accordance with Allah's will.

"Whoever Allah guides, he is the [rightly] guided; and whoever He sends astray - you will never find for them protectors besides Him, and We will gather them on the Day of Resurrection [fallen] on their faces - blind, deaf and dumb. Their refuge is Hell; every time it subsides We increase them in blazing fire" (Quran 17:97).

These verses emphasize the importance of seeking Allah's guidance through the Quran and following His commands in order to attain success and eternal happiness. They also highlight the fact that those who are guided by Allah will be rewarded with Paradise, while those who stray from His guidance will suffer the consequences of their actions.

"And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, 'Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority.' They said, 'Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, while we declare Your praise and sanctify You?' Allah said, 'Indeed, I know that which you do not know.' And He taught Adam the names - all of them. Then He showed them to the angels and said, 'Inform Me of the names of these, if you are truthful.' They said, 'Exalted are You; we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Indeed, it is You who is the Knowing, the Wise.' He said, 'O Adam, inform them of their names.' And when he had informed them of their names, He said, 'Did I not tell you that I know the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth? And I know what you reveal and what you have concealed.' And [mention] when We said to the angels, 'Prostrate before Adam'; so they prostrated, except for Iblees. He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers. And We said, 'O Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise and eat therefrom in [ease and] abundance from wherever you will. But do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers.' But Satan caused them to slip out of it and removed them from that [condition] in which they had been. And We said, 'Go down, [all of you], as enemies to one another, and you will have upon the earth a place of settlement and provision for a time.' Then Adam received from his Lord [some] words, and He accepted his repentance. Indeed, it is He who is the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful." (Quran 2:30-37)

"And We have certainly made for Hell many of the jinn and mankind. They have hearts with which they do not understand, they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear. Those are like livestock; rather, they are more astray. It is they who are the heedless." (Quran 7:179)

"And do not invoke besides Allah that which neither benefits you nor harms you, for if you did, then indeed you would be of the wrongdoers." (Quran 10:106)

These verses emphasize the fact that Allah provides guidance to humanity, but it is up to each individual to accept or reject it. Those who reject Allah's guidance and follow their own desires will face the consequences of their actions. The Quran also warns against invoking or worshiping anyone or anything besides Allah, as this can lead to misguided beliefs and practices.

"This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah." (Quran 2:2)

"And who believe in what has been revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what was revealed before you, and of the Hereafter they are certain [in faith]." (Quran 2:4)

"Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds and establish prayer and give zakah will have their reward with their Lord, and there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve." (Quran 2:277)

"Allah is the ally of those who believe. He brings them out from darknesses into the light. And those who disbelieve - their allies are Taghut. They take them out of the light into darknesses. Those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide eternally therein." (Quran 2:257)

These verses emphasize the importance of believing in Allah, following His guidance as revealed in the Quran, and doing righteous deeds. Those who do so will be rewarded with Allah's protection and guidance, while those who disbelieve and follow false idols or beliefs will face eternal punishment. The Quran is described as a book of guidance that provides direction for those who are conscious of Allah and seek to follow His path.

In summary, the Quranic concept of hidayah refers to guidance or the ability to be guided towards the truth and righteousness. This guidance is seen as a gift from Allah and is bestowed upon those who are sincere in their pursuit of Him and seek to follow His path. The Quran emphasizes the importance of seeking and following this guidance, as it leads to success in this life and in the Hereafter. Quranic verses on hidayah highlight the importance of belief in Allah, following His guidance, doing righteous deeds, and avoiding disbelief and false beliefs.
