Hell - in the Quran

In the Quran, Paradise is referred to as Jannah, which is described as a place of ultimate bliss and reward for those who believe in and obey Allah. It is depicted as a garden or a luxurious abode with flowing rivers, fruit trees, and shade, where believers will be reunited with loved ones and granted eternal peace and happiness.

The Quran describes Jannah in detail in many verses, including Surah Al-Baqarah, verses 25-26, Surah Al-Imran, verses 133-136, Surah Al-Rahman, verses 46-78, and Surah Al-Waqiah, verses 10-16. These verses describe the rewards and pleasures that await the righteous in Jannah, including:

Unlimited and abundant provision, including fruits, meats, and drinks

Comfortable furnishings, including luxurious couches and carpets

Reclining on beds under the shade of trees

Beautiful companions and spouses

Beautiful garments and jewelry

Eternal youth and good health

The opportunity to see and speak with Allah Himself

Freedom from all worries and suffering

The Quran also describes Jannah as a place of great spiritual reward, where believers will be close to Allah and enjoy His blessings and mercy. The pleasures and rewards of Jannah are seen as a reward for a life of faith and obedience to Allah, and serve as a source of hope and motivation for believers to continue doing good deeds and striving towards righteousness.

Here are the Quran chapter and verse numbers that mention Paradise:

Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 25: "And give good tidings to those who believe and do righteous deeds that they will have gardens [in Paradise] beneath which rivers flow." This verse mentions the reward of Paradise for those who have faith in Allah and perform righteous deeds.

Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 82: "And those who believe and do righteous deeds - those are the companions of Paradise; they will abide therein eternally." This verse mentions the promise of Paradise for those who believe in Allah and perform good deeds, and the warning of Hellfire for those who disbelieve and commit evil deeds.

Surah Al-Furqan, Verse 15-16: "Say, 'Is that better or the Garden of Eternity which is promised to the righteous? It will be for them a reward and destination. For them therein is whatever they wish, [while] abiding eternally. It is ever upon your Lord a promise [worthy to be] requested.'" These verses contrast the temporary pleasures of this world with the eternal pleasures of Paradise. Allah asks whether the temporary pleasures of this world are better or the Garden of Eternity that has been promised to the righteous. The reward of Paradise will be a destination for them where they will be able to get whatever they wish while abiding eternally. It is a promise from Allah that will surely be fulfilled.

Surah Al-Ghashiyah, Verse 12-16: "Indeed, their Lord with them, that Day, is [fully] Acquainted. [They will be] on thrones observing. Every soul will know what it has put forth and kept back. So be not harsh upon yourselves. It will be sufficient to address you that Day with [words of] reproach." These verses describe the state of the believers in Paradise. Allah will be with them, and they will be sitting on thrones observing everything around them. Every soul will know exactly what they did in the world and what they held back from doing. The believers will not need to be harsh on themselves, as Allah will be sufficient to address them and any shortcomings they had will be forgiven.

Surah Al-Hadid, Verse 21: "Race toward forgiveness from your Lord and a Garden whose width is like the width of the heavens and earth, prepared for those who believed in Allah and His messengers." This verse mentions the reward of Paradise as a spacious garden, prepared for those who believe in Allah and His messengers and seek forgiveness.

Surah Al-Imran, Verse 133: "And hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and a garden as wide as the heavens and earth, prepared for the righteous." This verse mentions the reward of Paradise as a spacious garden, prepared for those who seek forgiveness from Allah and live righteously.

Surah Al-Imran, Verse 15: "Say, 'Shall I inform you of [something] better than that? For those who fear Allah will be gardens in the presence of their Lord beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally, and purified spouses and approval from Allah." This verse mentions the reward of Paradise for those who fear Allah, which includes beautiful gardens with flowing rivers, eternal bliss, purified spouses, and the approval of Allah.

Surah Al-Insan, Verse 11: "For them therein is fruit, and for them is whatever they request [or wish]." This verse describes how in Paradise, the righteous will have access to whatever fruit they desire, as well as anything else that they may request or wish for.

Surah Al-Insan, Verse 12: "[They will be] reclining therein on adorned couches. They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold." This verse mentions the comfort of Paradise for its inhabitants, who will be resting on luxurious couches and will not feel the extremes of heat or cold.

Surah Al-Insan, Verse 17-18: "[They will be] reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes." These verses describe how the believers in Paradise will be reclining on thrones that are lined up, and will be married to fair women who have large, beautiful eyes. This is one of the many rewards that Allah promises to those who are righteous and who have fulfilled His commandments in the world.

Surah Al-Inshiqaq, Verse 11-12: Translation: "Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure, and indeed, the wicked will be in Hellfire." Summary: These verses contrast the reward of the righteous in Paradise with the punishment of the wicked in Hellfire.

Surah Al-Inshiqaq, Verse 5-9: "And as for he who is given his record in his right hand, He will say, "Here, read my record! I was certain that I would be meeting my account." So he will be in a pleasant life - In an elevated garden, Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near." These verses describe the reward that will be given to the righteous on the Day of Judgment. Those who are given their record in their right hand (i.e. they will enter Paradise) will be pleased and will acknowledge that they knew they would be held accountable. They will then enter into a pleasant life in an elevated garden, where the fruit will be hanging near them and easy to pick.

Surah Al-Mu'minun, Verse 1-11: "Indeed, the believers have succeeded: They who are during their prayer humbly submissive, And they who turn away from ill speech, And they who are observant of zakah, And they who guard their private parts, Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed - But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors." These verses highlight the characteristics of successful believers. They are those who submit humbly during their prayers, refrain from ill speech, pay zakah, and guard their private parts except with their spouses or those in their possession. These believers will be given the reward of Paradise, while those who transgress beyond these boundaries will be punished.

Surah Al-Mutaffifin, Verse 22-23: "Indeed, the righteous will be among gardens and rivers, In a seat of honor near a Sovereign, Perfect in Ability." Here, Allah again describes the gardens and rivers that the righteous will enjoy in Paradise. They will also have a seat of honor near Allah, who is perfect in ability and sovereignty.

Surah Al-Mutaffifin, Verse 22: Translation: "Faces that Day will be radiant, looking at their Lord." Summary: This verse refers to the joy and happiness that the believers will experience in Paradise as they look at their Lord.

Surah Al-Mutaffifin, Verse 24-26: "But as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, 'Oh, I wish I had not been given my record And had not known what is my account. I wish my death had been the decisive one." These verses describe the punishment that will be given to those who are not righteous and who are not granted entry into Paradise. They will be given their record in their left hand, indicating their failure, and they will wish that they had never known what their account was. They will wish that their death had been final, as they will be destined for punishment in the Hereafter.

Surah Al-Naba', Verse 31-33: Translation: "Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and rivers, in a seat of honor near a Sovereign Perfect in Ability." Summary: These verses mention that the righteous will reside in gardens and rivers, in a place of honor close to a Sovereign Perfect in Ability.

Surah Al-Najm, Verse 13-18: "And Paradise will be brought near to the righteous, not far, [It will be said], 'This is what you were promised - for every returner [to Allah] and keeper [of His covenant] Who feared the Most Merciful unseen and came with a heart returning [in repentance]. Enter it in peace. This is the Day of Eternity.' They will have whatever they wish therein, and with Us is more." These verses describe the nearness of Paradise to the righteous, which will be brought near to them on the Day of Judgment. The righteous are those who return to Allah and keep His covenant, fear Him unseen, and come with a heart of repentance. They will be welcomed into Paradise in peace, and it will be a day of eternity for them. They will have whatever they desire in Paradise, and Allah has even more in store for them.

Surah Al-Nisa, Verse 57: "But those who believe and do righteous deeds - We will admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally." This verse mentions the reward of Paradise for those who believe in Allah and perform good deeds, which includes gardens with flowing rivers where they will live forever.

Surah Al-Rahman, Verse 46-78: "Is the reward for good [anything] but good? Then which of the favors of your Lord do you deny? Blessed is the name of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor. And by the name of your Lord, [O Muhammad], I swear that I will surely fill Hell with jinn and people, all together. So taste [punishment] because you forgot the meeting of this, your Day; indeed, We have [accordingly] forgotten you. And taste the punishment of eternity for what you used to do." These verses emphasize the rewards of Paradise and the punishment of Hell. Allah asks whether the reward for good can be anything other than good and reminds the disbelievers of His many favors. The name of Allah is blessed and He is the Owner of Majesty and Honor. On the Day of Judgment, Allah will fill Hell with jinn and people who disbelieved, and they will taste the punishment because they forgot the meeting of that day. The punishment will be for eternity because of what they used to do.

Surah Al-Rahman, Verse 46: Translation: "In them are good and beautiful women." Summary: This verse indicates that Paradise will contain good and beautiful women.

Surah Al-Rahman, Verse 54: "So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?" This verse is a rhetorical question, asking the reader to consider which of the countless blessings that Allah has bestowed upon them they could possibly deny. One of these blessings, of course, is Paradise.

Surah Al-Shura, Verse 22: "You will see the wrongdoers fearful of what they have earned, and it will [certainly] befall them. And those who have believed and done righteous deeds will be in lush regions of the gardens [in Paradise] having whatever they will in the presence of their Lord. That is what is the great bounty." This verse contrasts the fear and punishment that will befall the wrongdoers with the reward of the believers who have done righteous deeds. The believers will be in lush regions of the gardens of Paradise, where they will be able to get whatever they desire in the presence of their Lord. This is a great bounty from Allah to His righteous servants.

Surah Al-Tatfif, Verse 11-14: "Indeed, the righteous will be among gardens and springs, Accepting what their Lord has given them. Indeed, they were before that doers of good. They used to sleep but little of the night, And in the hours before dawn they would ask forgiveness," In these verses, Allah describes how the righteous will be rewarded with gardens and springs in Paradise. They will be grateful for what Allah has given them, and will have been people who did good deeds in the world. They will also be known for their worship, as they would only sleep a little at night and would ask Allah for forgiveness in the early hours of the morning.

Surah Al-Tur, Verse 20-22: "And they will not hear therein any ill speech - only [greetings of] peace - and they will have their provision therein, morning and afternoon. That is Paradise, which We give as inheritance to those of Our servants who were fearing of Allah." These verses describe the peaceful environment that will be prevalent in Paradise. The inhabitants of Paradise will not hear any vulgar or harmful speech, but only greetings of peace. Moreover, they will be provided with sustenance in the morning and afternoon. This is a reward that Allah gives to His righteous servants who were fearful of Him and worked hard to attain His pleasure.

Surah Al-Waqi'ah, Verse 12-26: "And you will be three [kinds]: The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? And the forerunners, the forerunners - Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] In the gardens of pleasure, A [large] company of the former peoples And a few of the later peoples, On thrones woven [with ornament], Reclining on them, facing each other. There will circulate among them young boys made eternal with vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - And fruit of what they select And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. And [for them] are fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, The likenesses of pearls well-protected, As reward for what they used to do." These verses describe the different types of people who will be present on the Day of Judgment, and the rewards of Paradise that await the righteous. The companions of the right are those who will receive their record of deeds in their right hand and will be pleased with their reward. The companions of the left are those who will receive their record of deeds in their left hand and will face a painful punishment. The forerunners are the righteous who will be brought near to Allah in the gardens of pleasure, where they will recline on thrones and enjoy the company of others.

Surah Al-Waqi'ah, Verse 27-29: Translation: "In Gardens of pleasure, a [large] company of the former peoples and a few of the later peoples." Summary: These verses describe the Garden of Paradise as a place of pleasure where both the former and later peoples will be present.

Surah Al-Waqiah, Verse 12-13: "[They will be] reclining on beds whose linens are of silk brocade, and the fruit of the two gardens will be hanging low." This verse mentions the luxuries of Paradise for its inhabitants, who will be resting on soft beds and enjoying the fruits of its gardens.

Surah Al-Waqiah, Verse 34-35: "And indeed, for the righteous is attainment - Gardens and grapevines And full-breasted [companions] of equal age," In these verses, Allah describes the rewards that will be given to the righteous in Paradise. They will attain the gardens and grapevines of Paradise, and will also have companions who are of equal age and who are full-breasted.

These verses describe the different types of people who will be present on the Day of Judgment, and the rewards of Paradise that await the righteous. They will have eternal youth and will be served with vessels, pitchers, and a cup of wine from a flowing spring
