"And they say, 'Why was there not sent down to him an angel?' But if We had sent down an angel, the matter would have been decided; then they would not be reprieved." (Quran 6:8)
This verse refers to the disbelief of some people who demanded to see an angel before believing in the message of the Prophet. They believed that if an angel was sent down, the matter would be clear and they would have no reason to disbelieve. However, Allah is telling them that if He had sent down an angel, it would have been the end of their time to repent and they would have been judged immediately. This would have left them with no chance to turn back to Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins. Therefore, Allah in His infinite wisdom chose to send down a human messenger who could interact with people and convey the message in a way that they could understand and relate to.
In this verse, Allah is addressing those who deny the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and reject his message. They ask why an angel was not sent down to bring the message, as they believe that an angel is the only one who could bring divine revelation.
Allah is pointing out the flawed reasoning in their argument. He states that if an angel had been sent down, the matter would have been settled and there would have been no room for debate or discussion. People would have been compelled to believe, rather than having the freedom to choose to accept or reject the message based on their own understanding and reasoning.
By sending a human Prophet, Allah has given people the opportunity to reflect, contemplate, and make a conscious decision based on their own choice and understanding. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is a role model for humanity, demonstrating how to live a life according to Allah's guidance. He taught people the Quran and the Sunnah (the way of the Prophet), and people are able to study and learn from these teachings to make their own informed decisions about their faith.
