Prophet Adam - in the Quran

The story of Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) is narrated in several places in the Quran, including in Surah Al-Baqarah, which is the second chapter of the Quran.

Surah Al-Baqarah, verses 2:30-39:

"And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, 'Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority.' They said, 'Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, while we declare Your praise and sanctify You?' Allah said, 'Indeed, I know that which you do not know.'

And He taught Adam the names - all of them. Then He showed them to the angels and said, 'Inform Me of the names of these, if you are truthful.' They said, 'Exalted are You; we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Indeed, it is You who is the Knowing, the Wise.'

He said, 'O Adam, inform them of their names.' And when he had informed them of their names, He said, 'Did I not tell you that I know the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth? And I know what you reveal and what you have concealed.'

And [mention] when We said to the angels, 'Prostrate before Adam'; so they prostrated, except for Iblees. He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers.

And We said, 'O Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise and eat therefrom in [ease and] abundance from wherever you will. But do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers.'

But Satan whispered to them to make apparent to them that which was concealed from them of their private parts. He said, 'Your Lord did not forbid you this tree except that you become angels or become of the immortal.'

And he swore [by Allah] to them, 'Indeed, I am to you from among the sincere advisors.' So he made them fall, through deception. And when they tasted of the tree, their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten together over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And their Lord called to them, 'Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you that Satan is to you a clear enemy?'

They said, 'Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.'

[Allah] said, 'Descend, being to one another enemies. And for you on the earth is a place of settlement and enjoyment for a time.'"

These verses tell the story of how Allah created Adam and taught him the names of all things, and how He commanded the angels to prostrate to him. It also mentions how Satan refused to prostrate to Adam, and how he deceived Adam and Eve into eating from the forbidden tree, causing their expulsion from Paradise. The verses also mention how Adam and Eve repented to Allah and sought His forgiveness.

These verses describe the creation of Adam (peace be upon him) and his wife, Eve (Hawa in Arabic). Allah (SWT) says that He created Adam from clay, and breathed into him the spirit of life. Then, Allah commanded the angels to prostrate to Adam, as a sign of respect and honor. All of the angels obeyed this command, except for Iblis (Satan), who refused and became arrogant.

Allah asked Iblis why he did not prostrate to Adam, and Iblis replied that he was better than Adam because he was created from fire, while Adam was created from clay. Iblis then declared that he would try to mislead Adam and his descendants, except for those who were truly righteous.

Allah then placed Adam in the Garden of Paradise, and allowed him to eat from any tree except for one. Adam and Eve lived in Paradise, enjoying its pleasures and delights, until they were tempted by Iblis to eat from the forbidden tree.

2:35 - 2:39

These verses describe how Adam and Eve were tempted by Iblis to eat from the forbidden tree. Iblis told them that if they ate from the tree, they would become like angels or even gods, and that Allah was keeping the tree away from them because He did not want them to become powerful like Him.

Adam and Eve were tempted by these words, and they ate from the tree. As a result, they realized that they were naked and felt ashamed. They tried to cover themselves with leaves, but this was not enough. They realized that they had disobeyed Allah's command and had committed a sin.

Allah then sent Adam and Eve out of Paradise and onto the earth. He told them that they would live there for a time, and that He would send guidance to them. Allah also forgave Adam for his sin, and taught him words of repentance. Adam then repented and asked Allah for forgiveness.

In summary, these verses describe the creation of Adam and Eve, their placement in Paradise, their temptation by Iblis to eat from the forbidden tree, and their subsequent expulsion from Paradise. The story teaches us about the importance of following Allah's commands, and the consequences of disobeying Him. It also shows us that Allah is merciful and forgiving, and that we can always turn to Him in repentance.

Surah Al-A'raf, verses 7:11-25:

"Indeed, We created you, then We formed you, then We said to the angels, 'Prostrate to Adam,' and they prostrated, except for Iblees. He was not of those who prostrated.

[ Allah ] said, 'What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?' [Satan] said, 'I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay.'

[ Allah ] said, 'Descend from Paradise, for it is not for you to be arrogant therein. So get out; indeed, you are of the debased.'

[Satan] said, 'Reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected.'

[ Allah ] said, 'Indeed, you are of those reprieved.'

[Satan] said, 'Because You have put me in error, I will surely sit in wait for them on Your straight path. Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them and on their right and on their left, and You will not find most of them grateful [to You].'

[ Allah ] said, 'Get out of Paradise, reproached and expelled. Whoever follows you among them - I will surely fill Hell with you, all together.'

And, [O Muhammad], "inform My servants who believe to establish prayer and spend from what We have provided them, secretly and publicly, before a Day comes in which there will be no exchange, nor any friendships."

It is Allah who created the heavens and the earth and sent down rain from the sky and produced thereby some fruits as provision for you and subjected for you the ships to sail through the sea by His command and subjected for you the rivers.

And He subjected for you the sun and the moon, continuous [in orbit], and subjected for you the night and the day.

And He gave you from all you asked of Him. And if you should count the favor of Allah, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, mankind is [generally] most unjust and ungrateful."

These verses discuss the creation of Adam and Satan's refusal to prostrate to him. It also mentions Satan's arrogance and his request to be given respite until the Day of Resurrection, and Allah's acceptance of that request. The verses also highlight the importance of prayer and spending in the way of Allah, and the numerous blessings and favors that Allah has bestowed upon mankind, despite their general ingratitude and injustice.

Surah Sad, verses 38:71-85:

"When your Lord said to the angels, 'Indeed, I am going to create a human being from clay. So when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration.'

So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely.

Except Iblees; he was arrogant and became among the disbelievers.

[ Allah ] said, 'O Iblees, what prevented you from prostrating to that which I created with My hands? Were you arrogant [then], or were you [already] among the haughty?'

He said, 'I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay.'

[ Allah ] said, 'Then get out of Paradise, for indeed, you are expelled.

And indeed, upon you is My curse until the Day of Recompense.'

He said, 'My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected.'

[ Allah ] said, 'So indeed, you are of those reprieved

Until the Day of the time well-known.'

Iblees said, 'By Your might, I will surely mislead them all

except, among them, Your chosen servants.'

[Allah] said, 'The truth is, and the truth I say:

Indeed, I will fill Hell with you and those of them who follow you all together.'

Say, [O Muhammad], 'I do not ask you for any payment for this [message], nor am I a pretender.

It is but a reminder to the worlds.

And you will surely know its [true] information after a time.'"

These verses are similar to the ones in Surah Al-A'raf, in that they also discuss the creation of Adam and Satan's refusal to prostrate to him. The verses also mention Allah's curse upon Satan and his request for respite until the Day of Resurrection, and Allah's acceptance of that request.

Additionally, these verses emphasize that Satan's ultimate goal is to mislead people from the path of Allah, but that Allah's chosen servants will not be led astray. The verses also emphasize that the message of the Quran is a reminder to all of humanity, and that its truth will become clear to everyone in due time.
