Abu Dawud and an-Nasa'i have:
"Do not give property "to
go to the survivor" and do not give "life-tenancy",
for if anyone is given either, the property goes to his heirs."
وَلِأَبِي
دَاوُدَ وَالنَّسَائِيِّ : { لَا تُرْقِبُوا , وَلَا تُعْمِرُوا، فَمَنْ أُرْقِبَ
شَيْئًا أَوْ أُعْمِرَ شَيْئًا فَهُوَ لِوَرَثَتِهِ } 1

Narrated Abu Huraira:
I heard Allah's Apostle saying,
"By Him in Whose Hands my life is! Were it not for
some men who dislike to be left behind and for whom I do not have means of
conveyance, I would not stay away (from any Holy Battle). I would love to be
martyred in Allah's Cause and come to life and then
get, martyred and then come to life and then get
martyred and then get resurrected and then get martyred.
حَدَّثَنَا
سَعِيدُ بْنُ عُفَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ
خَالِدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، وَسَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ،
أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم
يَقُولُ " وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَوْلاَ
أَنَّ رِجَالاً يَكْرَهُونَ أَنْ يَتَخَلَّفُوا بَعْدِي وَلاَ أَجِدُ مَا
أَحْمِلُهُمْ مَا تَخَلَّفْتُ، لَوَدِدْتُ أَنِّي أُقْتَلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ،
ثُمَّ أُحْيَا ثُمَّ أُقْتَلُ، ثُمَّ أُحْيَا ثُمَّ أُقْتَلُ، ثُمَّ أُحْيَا ثُمَّ
أُقْتَلُ ".

Riyad as-Salihin » The Book of Miscellany
Anas bin Malik (May Allah be pleased
with him) reported:
Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said,
"Let none of you wish for death on account of an affliction that befalls
him. If he has no alternative, let him pray: 'Allahumma ahyine ma
kanatil-hayatu khairan li, wa tawaffani idha kanatil-wafatu khairan li (O
Allah! Give my life so long as the life is
good for me, and take away my life if death is good for
me)'."[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

وعن أنس رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: “لا يتمنين
أحدكم الموت لضر أصابه فإن كان لابد فاعلاً، فليقل: اللهم أحينى ما كانت الحياة
خيراً لى، وتوفنى إذا كانت الوفاة خيراً لى” ((متفق عليه)).

He reported God’s Messenger as
saying, “By Him in whose hand my soul is, were it not that men among the
believers are not satisfied with remaining behind me when I cannot get mounts
for them, I would not stay behind when an expedition goes out in God’s path. By
Him in whose hand my soul is, I wish I could be killed in God’s path and
brought to life, then be killed and brought to life,
then be killed and brought to life, then be killed.”
(Bukhari and Muslim.)
وَعَنْهُ
قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «وَالَّذِي
نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَوْلَا أَنَّ رِجَالًا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ لَا تَطِيبُ
أَنْفُسُهُمْ أَنْ يَتَخَلَّفُوا عَنِّي وَلَا أَجِدُ مَا أَحْمِلُهُمْ عَلَيْهِ
مَا تَخَلَّفْتُ عَنْ سَرِيَّةٍ تَغْزُو فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي
بِيَدِهِ لَوَدِدْتُ أنْ أُقتَلَ فِي سَبِيل الله ثمَّ أُحْيى ثمَّ أُقتَلُ ثمَّ
أُحْيى ثمَّ أُقتَلُ ثمَّ أُحْيى ثمَّ أقتل»

It was narrated that Abul’Ala’
ash-Shami said:
Abu Umamah put on a new garment, and
when it reached his collarbone he said: Praise be to Allah Who has clothed me
with that which conceals my `awrah and with which I may beautify myself in
my life. Then he said: I heard `Umar bin al-Khattab (رضي
الله عنه) say: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)
said: `Whoever gets a new garment, and puts it on and says, when it reaches his
collarbone, `Praise be to Allah Who has clothed me with that which conceals my
‘awrah and with which I may beautify myself in my life,`
then takes the garment that is worn out or that he took off - and gives it in
charity, will be in the care of Allah, may He be exalted, and under the
protection of Allah in life and in death, in life and
in death, in life and in death.`
حَدَّثَنَا
يَزِيدُ، أَنْبَأَنَا أَصْبَغُ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ الشَّامِيِّ، قَالَ لَبِسَ
أَبُو أُمَامَةَ ثَوْبًا جَدِيدًا فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ تَرْقُوَتَهُ قَالَ الْحَمْدُ
لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي مَا أُوَارِي بِهِ عَوْرَتِي وَأَتَجَمَّلُ بِهِ فِي
حَيَاتِي ثُمَّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ
يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ اسْتَجَدَّ
ثَوْبًا فَلَبِسَهُ فَقَالَ حِينَ يَبْلُغُ تَرْقُوَتَهُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ
الَّذِي كَسَانِي مَا أُوَارِي بِهِ عَوْرَتِي وَأَتَجَمَّلُ بِهِ فِي حَيَاتِي
ثُمَّ عَمَدَ إِلَى الثَّوْبِ الَّذِي أَخْلَقَ أَوْ قَالَ أَلْقَى فَتَصَدَّقَ
بِهِ كَانَ فِي ذِمَّةِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى وَفِي جِوَارِ اللَّهِ وَفِي كَنَفِ
اللَّهِ حَيًّا وَمَيِّتًا حَيًّا وَمَيِّتًا حَيًّا وَمَيِّتًا .
