Sunan Abi Dawud » Wages (Kitab Al-Ijarah)

Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah:

The Prophet (saws) said: Do not give property to go to the survivor and do not give life-tenancy. If anyone is given something to the survivor or given life-tenancy, it goes to his heirs.

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ "‏ لاَ تُرْقِبُوا وَلاَ تُعْمِرُوا فَمَنْ أُرْقِبَ شَيْئًا أَوْ أُعُمِرَهُ فَهُوَ لِوَرَثَتِهِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Narrated Anas ibn Malik:

The Prophet (saws) read the verse: "We ordained therein for them: Life for life and eye for eye (an-nafsa bin-nafsi wal-'aynu bil-'ayn).

حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ أَبِي عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَرَأَ ‏{‏ وَكَتَبْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ فِيهَا أَنَّ النَّفْسَ بِالنَّفْسِ وَالْعَيْنُ بِالْعَيْنِ ‏}‏ ‏.‏

Bulugh al-Maram » The Comprehensive Book

Anas (RAA) narrated, “The Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H.) used to supplicate frequently:

“O our Lord, grants us the best in this life and the best in the next life, and protects us from the punishment of the Fire.” Agreed upon.

وَعَنْ أَنَسٍ ‏- رضى الله عنه ‏- قَالَ: { كَانَ أَكْثَرُ دُعَاءِ رَسُولِ اَللَّهِ ‏- صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏-رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي اَلدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً, وَفِي اَلْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً, وَقِنَا عَذَابَ اَلنَّارِ } مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ .‏ ¹‏ .‏

Bulugh al-Maram » Business Transactions

Muslim has:

"Keep your properties for yourselves and do not squander them, for if anyone gives a life-tenancy it goes to the one to whom it is given, both during his life and after his death, and to his descendants."

وَلِمُسْلِمٍ : { أَمْسِكُوا عَلَيْكُمْ أَمْوَالَكُمْ وَلَا تُفْسِدُوهَا , فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ أَعْمَرَ عُمْرَى فَهِيَ لِلَّذِي أُعْمِرَهَا حَياً وَمَيِّتًا، وَلِعَقِبِهِ } ¹‏ .‏

Sahih Muslim » The Book of Gifts

Jabir b. 'Abdullah reported Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) as saying:

Life grant is permissible.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ "‏ الْعُمْرَى جَائِزَةٌ ‏"‏ ‏.‏
