Sunan an-Nasa'i » The Book of Praying for Rain (Al-Istisqa')
It was narrated from Abdullah bin Zaid that:
The Prophet (SAW) went out to pray for rain, and he prayed two rak'ahs facing the Qiblah. (Sahih
أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم خَرَجَ يَسْتَسْقِي فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ .

It was narrated that Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhani said:
"It rained during the time of the Prophet (SAW) and he said: 'Have you nt heard what your Lord said this night? He said: I have never sent down any blessing upon My slaves but some of them become disbelievers thereby, saying: 'We have been given rain by such and such a star.' As for the one who believes in Me and praises Me for giving rain, that is the one who believes in Me and disbelieves in the stars. But the one who says: 'We have been given rain by such and such a star' he has disbelieved in Me and believed in the stars."
In the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation of night and day; in the ships that sail the oceans for the benefit of humanity; in the rain that Allah sends down from the sky, with which He revives the earth after its death; in the scattering of all kinds of creatures throughout; in the shifting of the winds, and the clouds drifting between the sky and the earth; are signs for people who understand.

The example of those who spend their possessions seeking to please Allah and to secure themselves is similar to the example of a garden on a hill: if heavy rain falls on it, its produce is doubled; and if no heavy rain falls, then dew is enough. Allah sees whatever you do.

When you are among them, and you stand to lead them in prayer, let a group of them stand with you, and let them hold their weapons. Then, when they have done their prostrations, let them withdraw to the rear, and let another group, that have not prayed yet, come forward and pray with you; and let them take their precautions and their weapons. Those who disbelieve would like you to neglect your weapons and your equipment, so they could attack you in a single assault. You commit no error if you are hampered by rain or are sick, by putting down your weapons, but take precautions. Allah has prepared for the unbelievers a demeaning punishment.
